Founder of Professional Plus, LLC. Why settle for anything less than Professional Plus?

Last night, the NSBE Houston Professionals celebrated our annual gala, where we honored Vanessa Wyche, Director of the Johnson Space Center, with the Innovation Excellence Award. After months of dedicated effort, securing Vanessa Wyche as our keynote speaker was a thrill. Her presence made the event unforgettable, and it was an incredible honor to share her company at our table. Yesterday actually marked the 55th anniversary of Apollo 11’s historic moon landing, and Wyche’s inspiring speech was a powerful reminder of human achievement and the limitless possibilities of the future. The gala was a resounding success, thanks in large part to the incredible work of Karen Reeder and Keiron Durant. The NSBE National Leadership Conference in Chicago, IL was an incredible experience! 🤩 R2EB had the chance to connect with National, Regional, and Professional Executive Board members from across the country. We engaged in a range of workshops, fostering collaboration and enriching discussions about our leadership roles. We also gathered to address key NSBE matters. Sophomore slump who? From exploring my passions to landing my first big internship, this year took me on an unforgettable ride. I was selected as Freshmen Sophomore Transfer (FEB) President for the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). I led a team of 5 & spearheaded our mission in curating an all-inclusive community within our chapter. This was one of my most rewarding experiences, & my team was an absolute joy. I also volunteered a Software Engineering & UI/UX Design Intern at Nkowa okwu, working with the team to make Igbo-language learning accessible to all. I was also invited to attend the following, highly-selective, all-expense paid enrichment programs: ✈️ Out for Undergrad Digital (Tech Marketing) Conference Summit ✈️ Jopwell's Identity Develop Summit ✈️ Dell Technologies Emerge Summit ✈️ Duolingo Take Flight: Sear Into Success Summit ✈️ Walmart/Sam's Club Black & Latinx Leadership in Technology Summit ✈️ Management Leadership for Tomorrow Tech Trek I was also accepted into the following, highly-selective, career development programs: ✅ Black Venture Capital Consortium (BVCC) Product Management Program ✅ HeadStart Fellowship Program ✅ Management Leadership for Tomorrow Ascend Career Prep Program ✅ Microsoft Academy Scholar Azure Fundamentals Program ✅ Bloomberg Engineering’s Accelerator Summer School Program I also volunteered as Director of Black Owned Businesses & Creative Spotlight for NSBE’s Texas Zone Meeting, & through and showcasing 10 businesses resulting in total revenue of over $3K. I also attended my very first NSBE Conference with Region V, where my team and I won 1st Place in the Capital One Hackathon Competition. I was elected by my student body as Vice President of my National Society of Black Engineers University of Houston chapter & immediately began construction of the best plan of action to serve my community. In the same month I also attended the NSBE 49th National Conference, in which I had the opportunity of connecting with like-minded young professionals & where I received my first co-op offer to join GE Appliances, a Haier company as a Technical Project Manager Intern this fall! I’m also proud to announce I’ve finally finished my second year at the University of Houston as well as my successful internship as a Project Manager at Northrop Grumman in Washington, D.C., specifically in the Space Systems force. I built lifelong connections, my project was pushed to production, & I received a return offer for summer 2024! I'm happy to have found what I was searching for in engineering & I accomplished many of my wildest dreams & more. I’d like to thank my family, friends, & the many communities I belong to, especially NSBE, ColorStackRewriting the Code, Out in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (oSTEM), & MLT. I’m beyond blessed to have such grand support by my side, & I can’t wait to see what my future holds in store! 🚀✨

Welcome to Feature Fridays! Today we would like to highlight Dasia Jackson who is entering her senior year at Lawrence Tech! Jackson is already an engineer of tomorrow with multiple honors and awards. Most recently, Jackson was honored at The Engineering Society of Detroit’s Gold Award banquet with the College Initiative Student of the Year award from the National Society of Black Engineers Detroit Professional Chapter. The honor recognized her efforts in re-establishing the Lawrence Tech NSBE student chapter. She was also awarded at LTU for Outstanding Student Member of the National Society of Black Engineers. Jackson, an electrical engineering major, chose LTU after she graduated from the Advanced Technology Academy in Dearborn, where she was part of its mechatronics program for three years at Henry College. Jackson said she chose LTU because of the “sense of community and the small class sizes. I visited other places, and a lot of the students said they didn’t have a connection with their professors or their advisors. What I like about Lawrence Tech is that I have a real connection with my professors and with my classmates, and a lot of the higher-level students really helped me get through the major.”Her advice to high school students seeking a college? “I would tell them to drive for what they believe in, and that Lawrence Tech is a great school to navigate yourself through that process,” she said. “Lawrence Tech gives you a chance to make a difference and guarantee opportunity for yourself.” Jackson is also an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers & LTU’s Society of Physics Students and has done 100 hours of volunteer work for Forgotten Harvest, Gleaners, and the Greening of Detroit, emphasizing the latter group for helping efforts to mitigate climate change. She also helped organize a jean giveaway that saw more than 130 pairs of jeans donated to people experiencing homelessness.
