Honoring the Past, Innovating the Future
About us
National Philanthropy Day (NPD) is a special day set aside for the purpose of recognizing the great contribution philanthropy makes to our society and to honor individuals, businesses, and support organizations that are active in the philanthropic community. NPD was the inspiration of local philanthropist and attorney Doug Freeman. After five years of work and hundreds of letters, the idea gained support nationwide. In 1986, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed November 15 as National Philanthropy Day. Since then, in communities throughout the United States and Canada, folks have joined together to honor the spirit of giving in their own regions. We believe that philanthropy benefits not only our own communities, but enriches and empowers the global community. NPD offers an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of charitable giving and the spirit that makes such generosity possible. NPD is coordinated and supported on an international scale by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). This highly respected trade organization promotes the ethical advancement of philanthropy. We hope you will celebrate Orange County’s Annual National Philanthropy Day by registering to attend the awards luncheon on November 17, 2021 at the City National Grove of Anaheim. Each Honoree has a different story but is ultimately connected through the same passion and commitment to serve others, especially the Orange County community!
Had the opportunity to attend the National Philanthropy Day Orange County Luncheon. So many friends and colleagues there to celebrate an amazing group of honorees! #NPD Congrats to Sona S. Ed Lee Wing Lam Mingo Lee Maya Patel Taryn Taddeo Palumbo and the other award recipients! Thanks, Minzah Malik, MPH, MBA for the invite! I have attended this event for years but as I was watching the program and listening to the stories, I realized something. Over the years, I’ve seen a growing group of honorees from diverse ethnic backgrounds and many have immigrant stories. They came to this country seeking the American Dream. Despite always being casted as the “other” especially during times of crisis, these people have invested much into the community they call home. It’s great that they get the recognition they deserve!
