It's officially official! The Biden administration has at last rejected permits for the proposed Ambler mining road, defeating the 211-mile road once and for all. This is an Alaska-size win for Gates of the Arctic National Park & Preserve, caribou & Alaska Native communities. This victory comes after years of advocacy led by Alaska Native communities and supported by park lovers from across the nation. NPCA is proud to have joined the fight to say #NoAmblerRoad #Alaska #NationalParks #ParkProtection #ParkAdvocate #GatesOfTheArctic #Wildlife

It's time to make Joshua Tree National Park whole again: join NPCA in urging the Biden administration to fully protect the California desert and establish Chuckwalla National Monument. For decades, NPCA has worked to protect the Greater Joshua Tree landscape. Joshua Tree National Park is a world-renowned region, characterized by wide-open vistas marked by iconic Joshua trees, yucca, rare rock formations and outdoor recreation. The proposed Joshua Tree National Park expansion would restore the 17,000 acres that were removed from its landscape in the 1940s, while the Chuckwalla National Monument would preserve over 600,000 acres between Joshua Tree National Park and the Colorado River. Use your voice to speak up for the California desert with our action alert. #JoshuaTree #CaliforniaDesert #Chuckwalla #AntiquitesAct #ProtectOurParks

In case you missed it, the National Park Service recently released the results of the Julius Rosenwald and Rosenwald Schools Special Resource Study. The study affirmed that the remarkable story of Julius Rosenwald, a Jewish American philanthropist who partnered with African American communities to build schools across the South, is suitable for inclusion in the National Parks System. It’s long past time for a national park site that tells this story of Jewish and Black leaders coming together to make our country a better place. NPCA is a proud founding member of the Rosenwald Park Campaign, advocating for a multisite national park site that includes a small number of keystone Rosenwald Schools, a network of additional Rosenwald Schools across the South, as well as a visitor center in Chicago dedicated to Rosenwald’s legacy. These “Rosenwald Schools,” provided the first permanent educational facilities for many black people in rural areas, educating one-third of the African American children in the South before the legal end to segregation. Many of the students who graduated from Rosenwald schools — including Congressman John Lewis and poet Maya Angelou — were leaders in the civil rights movement. #Rosenwald #JewishAmericans #NationalParks #FutureParks #ProtectOurParks

As the National Park Service evaluates its uniform policy, NPCA and our members are urging NPS to support a policy that allows its staff to participate in community events while uniformed, when those events are tied to the mission of the National Park Service, highlight the stories parks protect, provide an opportunity to recruit a broad and diverse workforce or deepen the relationships with a community. Wearing the uniform of the National Park Service means a person is representing the values and mission of the National Park Service and all the values and stories of its park sites. Each park is part of the National Park System to help better represent the full American story. The full American story includes chapters about Black history, Women’s history, LGBTQ identity, and so many more diverse cultural and natural elements of our country. We must make sure new uniform guidelines are clear, inclusive, and continue allowing all park staff to be treated with the same respect and care they show to our parks. Join us in sending a message to Director Chuck Sams to remind them of NPS staff's critical roles in our community as storytellers and stewards of our national parks. #NationalParks #ParkAdvocate #NationalParkService #UniformGuidance #Community https://lnkd.in/eMbkHQzP
