Why a 1% AbilityOne Program Utilization Goal for the DOD is Essential 👇 NIB and its associated nonprofit agencies have focused their advocacy efforts this year on a mandatory 1% AbilityOne Program utilization goal for the #DepartmentOfDefense. This initiative aims to enhance #employmentopportunities for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. In our latest video, Lise Pace, executive vice president of Bosma Enterprises, discusses the importance of this goal. “This legislation is critically important. We know there’s a high unemployment rate among people who are blind or have significant disabilities; there’s just not employment out there for people. What we can do is have a statutory goal for DOD that would increase employment by at least 20,000 jobs for this population that’s underserved.” Watch the video to understand how this legislation could make a substantial impact! #ChampionEmploymentGrowth #DisabilityEmployment #Blindess #LowVision #NIBAdvocacy"

On Thursday, we celebrated a remarkable milestone at National Industries for the Blind: Paul Henry’s 45th work anniversary! “Being able to be here this long is all because of the people I’ve worked with who have had the patience and forbearance to achieve the mission,” said Paul during his celebratory remarks. Paul, NIB's program manager of pricing support, is much more than his title. “He’s the encyclopedia, he knows everything. Paul has lways been the source of information for anything on the Procurement List or NIB’s history,” said Kevin Campbell, VP of Operations. Paul, your dedication and hard work over the past 45 years have been invaluable. Thank you for being such an integral part of the NIB family! #NIB #WorkAnniversary

Right before the 2024 NIB/NAEPB Public Policy Forum held in May, Heard & Empowered, hosted by Dr. Hoby Wedler, featured a profound conversation with former Congressman Luke Messer and Jeffrey Mittman, CEO of Bosma Enterprises. As we continue our #ChampionEmploymentGrowth advocacy efforts, we're re-highlighting this episode for its critical insights into the ""1% Ask"" to increase #DepartmentOfDefense spending on AbilityOne® Program products and services. Don't miss this discussion that helped pave the way for our day on Capitol Hill, where our Advocates for Leadership and Employment met with their agency's local Congressional representatives. Increasing the Department of Defense's utilization of #AbilityOne® Program products to 1% can make a huge difference in creating employment opportunities for people who are blind or low vision.
