Aspiring Americans deserve dignity and safety, not racist, xenophobic tropes that strip them of their humanity. Read this insightful opinion piece in Teen Vogue explaining how false narratives are too often weaponized to harm real people.

We condemn President Biden's decision to further entrench unlawful asylum restrictions that violate due process and human rights, effectively shutting off access to asylum for the vast majority of people arriving at the U.S. border. "Finalizing the June 2024 rule makes permanent an asylum ban that is already illegal on its face, without curing any of the legal or humanitarian harms that the rule has already caused. This action will only lead to more confusion at the border and serious rights abuses for people seeking safety. The U.S. must adhere to domestic and international laws protecting the rights of people to seek asylum and refuge regardless of their manner of entry,” said NIJC Director of Litigation Keren Zwick. "Just measuring the success of this final rule based on low numbers, that is a political look at what is a challenging, complex policy issue that’s not going away for the United States government anytime soon." NIJC Policy Director Nayna Gupta spoke to NBC News about the Biden administration's inhumane new rule that restricts asylum access even more and puts thousands of people's lives at risk.
