Can't miss event!!! The benefits of improving affordable housing to achieve better climate and health outcomes are increasingly evident, but barriers remain to doing so in existing buildings. With new resources available through the Inflation Reduction Act, it is imperative to identify a pathway for existing buildings to achieve better performance – both to benefit residents and to preserve our existing housing stock in the face of climate change. - National Housing Trust

We are so pleased to be a part of the Thriving Communities Technical Assistance team, along with Abt Associates Equitable Cities LLC and Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. These days we could all use some good news and inspiration, and for me this comes from the great work in local communties across the country to solve their housing, community development, infrastructure and climate challenges in a comprehensive and collaborative way, with support from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and our federal partners. Check out this article from the PD&R Edge telling the story about how Syracuse NY used HUD's Thriving Communities Technical Assistance (TCTA) to help secure funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Reconnecting Communities program to rebuild and reconnect neighborhoods divided by an interstate highway. And check out the link in my comment below to learn more about TCTA and how YOUR community can apply for help leveraging infrastructure investments for affordable housing and equitable development. Great work Pamela Blumenthal Reena Burt and the amazing PD&R team!

Here’s what some of the smartest people who own and operate affordable apartments have been saying lately: “Excessive rent loss will decimate Seattle’s community of nonprofit housing providers,” according to longtime developer and owner Sharon Lee. “We will not have the financial resources to maintain the housing, make mortgage payments, or meet the obligations of our lenders.” Read more in Washington Report: https://bit.ly/4eZixr3
