Meet Preethi Nair (She/Her), Senior Director, Data Solutions In the evolving landscape of professional sports, data is a critical asset, helping to reshape organizational strategies and finetune decision-making processes. At the forefront of this transformation within the National Hockey League (NHL) is Preethi Nair, Senior Director, Data Solutions. The journey and expertise that Preethi and her team bring have played a pivotal role in driving innovation and success through our data. Joining the NHL in 2017 with a background in data warehouse consulting spanning over a decade, Preethi brought experience and a fresh perspective to her role. Preethi was nervous about her first day at the NHL and wondered how she would work with all these passionate fans when she knew nothing about the sport. All her fears went away immediately after starting. She felt wholly accepted and immediately knew she belonged there. That belonging has continued to grow over the last seven years. Preethi led efforts to consolidate the NHL’s fan data from numerous sources onto a unified platform called BLADE while working to ensure compliance with U.S., Canadian, and other global privacy regulations, which is critical as BLADE currently hosts billions of data points on NHL fan interactions. Preethi and the BLADE team have also led the migration of BLADE to a leading cloud data platform. This transition enhanced scalability and efficiency while facilitating advanced analytics and greater machine-learning capabilities. By enabling seamless collaboration through bi-directional data sharing with NHL clubs this year, Preethi hopes to empower our Clubs to derive actionable insights from BLADE data. This groundwork has laid the foundation for deeper analysis and predictive models, enabling data-driven decision-making across marketing and fan engagement initiatives. Preethi's leadership has been critical to the progress and exemplifies the transformative impact of expertise and innovation in Data Engineering. Despite the work already done, Preethi and her team continue to evolve the NHL's data-driven future.
