  • Thanks to NEDA clinical advisor Dr. Kim Dennis, M.D. for speaking about the concerns (and much-needed research) related to weight loss drugs and their impact on those with eating disorders.

Todays The New York Times. More from Dr. Kim Dennis, M.D. and SunCloud Health on some of the concerns we have with the #ozempic craze. "A 'Band-Aid’ for a Bigger Problem" "Weight loss drugs could give people with binge eating disorder “back their brakes,” enabling them to stop over-eating, said Dr. Kim Dennis, M.D. (SunCloud Health) a psychiatrist who is part of the National Eating Disorder Association’s clinical advisory council. But, she added, “you want to make sure the brake isn’t stuck on all the time." "Dr. Dennis said she has seen some patients with eating disorders become malnourished from consuming too little food while on drugs like Ozempic....."

  • “It should be as easy to get treatment for an eating disorder as it is to get treatment for irritable bowel syndrome. But it isn’t…It’s past time that we stop acting like coverage of mental health issues is nice to have. Parity is the law.” Thank you Assistant Secretary Lisa M. Gomez for speaking about what so many individuals and families find when they look to access treatment for eating disorders and other mental health concerns. We need to remove the systemic barriers that make it difficult to get help. National Eating Disorders Association was proud to be represented at The Kennedy Forum #Align4Progress event this week and be among fellow change-making organizations. We are happy to commit to supporting the 90-90-90 goals for 2033 where 90% of the population is screened for MH (including eating disorders) and SUD, 90% receive quality evidence-based treatments, and 90% manage symptoms and achieve recovery. #eatingdisorders #mentalhealth

CEO, National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA)

It was my privilege to present with NEDA Clinical Advisor Leah Graves, RDN, LDN, CEDS-S, FAED to the NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and share resources from the National Eating Disorders Association. We can all benefit from better understanding our mindset about food, what may be informing it, and how to determine if we or someone we love may be at risk for developing an eating disorder. Thank you Heidi Kutcher for organizing and hosting this important talk. #eatingdisorders #mentalhealth

  • 1 in 10 women delay motherhood because of disordered eating. 1 in 3 women fear disclosing their eating disorder or disordered eating with a reproductive health care professional, according to the survey. Women, especially those in higher weight bodies are often told to “lose weight” before trying to conceive (without being asked about their histories of disordered eating). Thanks Equip for sharing these important findings. We must do better for the millions of women impacted by eating disorders. https://lnkd.in/eBZFAURh

The National Eating Disorders Association is grateful to have funded this important research. Thanks to our partners at Project HEAL and EAT Lab for completing this study and validating what we’ve heard from those seeking eating disorders care. Treatment is often difficult to access and fragmented. Those impacted aren’t getting the level of care they need and when they do, it’s frequently not covered by insurance. That is, assuming they were appropriately diagnosed and deemed “sick enough” for treatment to begin with. We must do better for those affected by eating disorders. Access to care matters. #eatingdisorders #mentalhealth #mentalhealthparity #arfid
