About us
National Children's Center, Inc. (NCC) is a recognized leader in providing comprehensive and innovative services for children and adults with developmental disabilities in the District of Columbia and Maryland. NCC partners with the people that we serve, their families and others in the community, to work toward a clear vision for the future. We believe that people with developmental disabilities should have every resource necessary to learn, live, work, grow and thrive in their community - which fully embraces them as valued and contributing members of society. Our mission is to enhance the lives of people of all ages, diverse backgrounds, and differing abilities through inclusive opportunities and to provide them with the necessary tools to live full, meaningful and productive lives. Over the years, NCC began serving children with other developmental disabilities, including Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down Syndrome, and brain injuries. As children in the program began to mature into adulthood, NCC broadened their service spectrum and continued to provide them with the adult services they required as well. Each day, hundreds of children and adults, from ages 8 weeks through 70 years, with developmental disabilities receive the services they require in order to live, grow and thrive in their community.

Women's Equality Day honors the ongoing pursuit of equal rights and opportunities for women. This day serves as a reminder of the vital importance of education and engagement, - especially for younger generations- they are often unaware of the history that includes the struggles, victories, and rights that have shaped our present day. "The 2024 theme for International Women’s Day is Inspire Inclusion. Upon reflection, it makes one consider the countless barriers and challenges women of all nations, creeds, and colors face in their day-to-day lives. Their determination to serve as examples to daughters, nieces, sisters, friends, and others who came behind them led the charge to fight for a better tomorrow. Because of fearless women like Sojourner Truth, Eleanor Roosevelt, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte, and Patsy Mink, we still rise upon whose backs we stand. These women, through their courage and resilience, have inspired us and continue to empower us. But the journey is incomplete; we have much more to do. We must continue to make history by forcing equitable change for us all, leaving no one behind." - Misty Johnson-Oratokhai, Chief Operating Officer The National Children's Center (NCC) provides platforms that foster education, dialogue, and awareness to ensure the message of equality resonates throughout our communities, fostering an environment where everyone understands and champions the cause of equality. How can you bring about change and fairness for everyone? How Can You Inspire Inclusion?
