Recent FDA findings revealed that 13 of 210 dark chocolate-containing products labeled “dairy-free” contained milk allergens. Milk is one of the nine “major food allergens” whose presence in food is required to be declared on a food product’s label. 1983 - The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service delisted the long jaw cisco from the Endangered Species list due to extinction. It was a fish known to occur in Lakes Michigan, Huron, and Erie; and has not been seen since 1967. Over the summer, Director Harrison Pittman was invited to testify before a Congressional committee in North Dakota on the future of ag research and technology. USDA Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small also testified on a separate panel at the hearing, where she noted the value of the partnership between NALC and USDA.
