Exciting news! Zero Waste Nashville and Urban Green Lab have transitioned Sustainable in the City to a podcast. In this new format, Sustainable in the City will be released on the third Tuesday of every month as a podcast rather than a live webinar. The podcast format lets you listen in at the time that works best for you on Spotify, Amazon Music, or wherever you get your podcasts! Each episode will feature a Nashville resident who takes small sustainable actions that make a big impact on Nashville. We’ll chat with your neighbors, coworkers, and fellow community members about the benefits, barriers, and motivators in their sustainability story. Listen to the trailer now and mark your calendars for Tuesday, June 18, to listen to our first episode! https://lnkd.in/eb5JM3Ff

Yesterday, the MWS Waste Service’s Zero Waste team was awarded two grants from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation that will support efforts to achieve the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County Zero Waste goal. An Education and Outreach grant for $14,782 was awarded to develop a multilingual PSA to reach Nashville’s diverse communities about recycling. An Organics Management grant for $100,000 was awarded to support continued curbside collection of food scraps as part of the Food Scraps Pickup Pilot Program. Together, these grants provide MWS Waste Services added opportunities to improve programs that help reduce the waste sent to landfills by increasing recycling and composting.

Celebrating Metro Nashville's Arbor Day ceremony yesterday was a moment of immense pride! Huge congratulations to NOVEL Harpeth Heights Apartments and residents Ashley Brady and Sean Schaffer for their well-deserved awards. Special thanks to the Metro Beautification Commission, Mayor Freddie O'Connell, Metro General Services, and all nonprofit partners in the Root Nashville Campaign for their incredible dedication. Together, let's continue to grow our urban forest towards the goal of planting 500,000 trees by 2050! 💚

Two years after announcing Metro’s first Net Zero Energy Building, MWS is thrilled to announce the startup of Metro’s largest solar installation. This latest installation doubles the capacity of Metro’s solar installations, taking a significant step towards Metro’s 100% renewable energy standard, and marking a significant milestone in the City and MWS’ ongoing commitment to sustainable energy.

MWS has once again successfully met the FEMA's annual requirements for Community Rating System (CRS) certification, ensuring that Nashville residents will continue to see a 10% discount on flood insurance premiums. Davidson County residents are encouraged to proactively manage their flood risks by understanding their individual vulnerability and securing appropriate flood insurance coverage. Mapped Davidson County floodplains and floodways can be viewed on interactive maps at https://lnkd.in/eXUEJ4Hh. A flood insurance policy offers critical financial protection against potential flood damage, a cost not covered by standard homeowner's insurance. This coverage is readily available for homeowners, renters, condominium owners, and commercial property owners alike. FEMA provides comprehensive information and resources regarding the NFIP on their website: https://lnkd.in/eC-aGAP.
