The Strobel House has opened its doors! The Strobel House provides support to residents through services such as medical aid, addiction treatment, mental health support and career assistance. 🎉 The Strobel House, featuring 90 homes for local individuals who are experiencing homelessness, is the first permanent supportive housing facility. The Strobel House was created in honor of the late Father Charlie Strobel who dedicated his life to help those who are experiencing homelessness. Nashville Rescue Mission is thrilled to partner with organizations serving the community experiencing homelessness. ❤️

The Women's Campus is currently well over capacity, especially with a significant increase in the number of mothers with children. Presently, we are accommodating 95 children, whereas the average number usually ranges from 30 to 40. Additionally, we had 377 women stay with us last night, with a max capacity of 339. We are completely out of baby formula and urgently need your help to spread the word for donations. If anyone would like to contribute, they can do so by using our Amazon Wishlist or by dropping off unopened, unexpired formula at our donation center, located at 616 7th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203. Fatherhood “is a glimpse of God's unconditional love on this side of heaven. You laugh, you learn, but—most importantly—you love." We are fathers, we have fathers, and we serve fathers at the Mission. From the fathers who donate and volunteer their resources and time to the ones who need a helping hand, Happy Father’s Day!

People like Paul, experiencing homelessness in this heat, found refuge at the Mission. Paul shared that the hardest part of experiencing homelessness this summer is “the heat. Period." Learn 7 ways you can help your neighbors in need in this increasingly hotter weather.   1️⃣ DONATE BOTTLED WATER We’ll have it in our building and also pass it out on the streets to keep people hydrated. 2️⃣ MAKE A FINANCIAL DONATION Instead of handing out money to someone, consider donating to nonprofits who serve those experiencing homelessness. 3️⃣ DONATE NONPERISHABLE FOOD Food is often in short supply at shelters during this time of year, so consider a donation of canned goods or other nonperishable food items. 4️⃣ GIVE TOILETRY ITEMS Travel-sized toiletry items (alcohol-free!) and things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable razors, soap, and lotion are always needed. 5️⃣ EMPOWER PEOPLE TO GET OUT OF THE HEAT Extreme heat can be very dangerous, and a place to cool down is very important. Point them to Nashville Rescue Mission or other day services in the area.  6️⃣ VOLUNTEER Give the gift of your time. Volunteer to serve meals to your community. 7️⃣ BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR If you see someone in need, check on them. Offer a bottle of water or other resources. Learn how to distinguish if someone is experiencing a heat stroke, and if it’s an emergency, call 911. Thank you for continuing to support the Mission through seasons of extreme cold and extreme heat. Our neighbors need our help! ❤️

“Motherhood is powerful. I think every mother is a chosen one. That’s how I see it. You are chosen to bring a human being into this earth.” “This is my first child. He’s 5 now. I had him 5 years ago when I was 25. And not understanding a lot about being a mom was probably the hardest part. But with time, I understood that even the difficult is a blessing.” The advice I would give to mothers with little kids is “be patient. Be patient and don’t project yourself onto them. Just let them be and let them teach you who they are. Help them be themselves because most of us didn’t know how to be ourselves when we were younger. They taught us to do what they wanted, which when you grow up, that makes you afraid, and I don’t want my son to go through that. So I’m learning who he is, so I can help him become who he wants to be.” “I am from West Africa originally, so the difference is a lot. I was raised between here and Africa, and there is a lot of difference culturally. I have a more open mindset. When I was younger—in Africa—the culture helped me with my manners and how to protect myself as a woman, but then sometimes it blocked you because it made you afraid. Right now I’m in the balance of stopping my son from doing certain things but also letting him be who he wants to be. If I went back home right now (to Africa) with the way I am raising him, my mother wouldn’t accept a lot of things.” I’m most proud of myself for “not running away from the situation. I always like to fight. Being in the Mission is a blessing, of course, but being in this situation can sometimes make you feel like you didn’t do what you’re supposed to do. But then I look at it as a ‘better start.’ I stay strong so I can keep moving forward. I always tell myself, if I’m too weak or too emotional, who is going to help my son? And that gives me the strength to push forward.” NN, like several other neighbors in Nashville, are experiencing homelessness as a mother. We are so thankful for all the ways in which you give back to these mommas and babies in need. From the Mission to you and yours—Happy Mother’s Day! 🫶 #nashville #motherhood #mothersday #mother #momlife #homeless #homelessness
