When it comes to inspiring the next generation, NASA interns know no bounds. Interns at our center taught students 7,600 miles away in Mogotio, Kenya, but thanks to technology, they didn’t travel a single mile. Collaborating with TechLit Africa — a non-profit organization that teaches digital skills in Kenyan rural primary schools — interns shared virtual lessons on robot simulation, artificial intelligence, and drawing and modeling applications. “It was an absolute privilege to help these kids and being a part of it,” said Marc Frances, extended reality developer and former NASA Glenn intern. “We do a lot of outreach events and try to influence kids from every part of life to become an engineer and be part of something that’s bigger than themselves.” Celebrate #NationalInternDay with us and read more: https://lnkd.in/gTrnrmvk Video Credit: TechLit Africa, NASA/Dennis Brown, Steven Logan #Interns #Technology #AI #Internship #NASA

About us
Located near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, Glenn's main campus, Lewis Field, has world-class facilities including wind tunnels, drop towers, vacuum chambers, and a research aircraft hangar. Glenn’s Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky, Ohio, is home to the world’s largest and most powerful space environment simulation chambers. It is the only place in the world that can test a full-sized spacecraft for all the extreme conditions of launch and spaceflight. One of ten NASA centers, Glenn’s work is essential to the agency and integral to the regional economy. We had a blast celebrating the NASA logo's 65th birthday at Great Lakes Science Center yesterday! Family members of the late James Modarelli, the NASA Glenn employee who designed the iconic symbol in Cleveland, helped us kick off the day with a cake-cutting ceremony. Visitors enjoyed a performance from our NASA Glenn band, took part in a coloring contest, heard presentations about the history of the logo, and listened as our award-winning photographers and videographers shared about their careers and the intersection of art and science. Throughout the day, attendees also tried on virtual reality headsets thanks to our Graphics and Visualization Lab team and explored the Science Center's TapeScape Exhibit to learn about Glenn's work supporting research aboard the International Space Station. Some things just make sense… ✨🎈🎂 #OTD in 1959, NASA’s iconic logo became official. Affectionately called the "meatball," it was designed in Cleveland at the lab that would become NASA Glenn. During a recent visit to our center, Northeast Ohio 4-H kids learned how NASA brings space technology down to Earth. 🌎 During the event, Ashlie Flegel, deputy director of NASA Glenn’s Technology Integration and Partnerships, demonstrated thermoregulation for the group. This technology helps keep astronauts cool in their space suits. NASA Spinoffs of thermoregulation technology have been used in the fields of sports and medicine here on Earth. Flegel also provided the group of 200 students with an overview of jet engines and the types of testing we conduct at the center.
