Nepal’s second PV auction for 800 MW could raise the share of intermittent generation capacity to roughly 50% of the country’s peak demand. Through USAID Scaling Up Renewable Energy (#SURE), Paul Tuson, David Curtiss and @Richard Campbell, I discussed system-wide analyses and measures to add more variable RE while keeping the power grid stable and supply reliable with 50 power sector planners, grid operators, and other energy professionals in #Kathmandu. With support from USAID, NARUC prepared the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission of Ukraine (NEURC) to address adjustments to its transmission and distribution tariffs that will be needed to recover significant post-war infrastructure investments as well as develop a capacity remuneration framework - or a framework designed to help ensure that demand for electricity is met - to secure the availability of power system flexibility. In doing so, NEURC will be better able to replenish its generation fleet and meet peak electricity demand. We would also like to thank the Energy Regulatory Office of Poland (Urząd Regulacji Energetyki (URE)) for hosting this training and for its collaboration and leadership in sharing the Polish experience on tariffs and capacity markets. #ukraine #energysector #electricity #infrastructure

📢 26 i 27 września w Warszawie USAID oraz NARUC zorganizowały szkolenie dla ukraińskiego regulatora NEURC. Szkolenie prowadzili m.in. eksperci #URE: Piotr Rak i Jarosław Szymanowski. To była dobra okazja, aby podzielić się praktyczną wiedzą z przedstawicielami ukraińskiego regulatora, zwłaszcza w obecnej sytuacji, trudnej dla tego regionu z powodu trwającej wojny i zbliżającej się zimy. 🗣 Eksperci #URE mówili m.in. o regulacji taryf w Polsce oraz mechanizmie wynagradzania za utrzymanie mocy. Podzielili się doświadczeniami polskiego regulatora dotyczącymi tych zagadnień.   ⚡ 26 września Jarosław Szymanowski z Departamentu Rynków Energii Elektrycznej i Ciepła podczas panelu „Tariff regulation in Poland” zaprezentował polski system taryfowania elektroenergetycznych przedsiębiorstw sieciowych, w tym podstawy prawne, stosowane modele regulacyjne i metodologie kalkulacji taryf OSP i OSD. ⚡ 27 września Piotr Rak z Departamentu Rozwoju Rynków i Spraw Konsumenckich w panelu „Capacity Remuneration Mechanism in Poland” omówił funkcjonowanie polskiego rynku mocy. W tym panelu wyjaśnione zostały powody wprowadzenia tego mechanizmu w Polsce, jego podstawy prawne i sposób organizacji, wyniki aukcji mocy oraz rola regulatora na rynku mocy. 👏Wystąpienia ekspertów #URE w ocenie uczestników spotkania wyróżniały się wysokim poziomem merytorycznym i atrakcyjną formą przekazu.

I was pleased to participate and present at the NARUC #Cybersecurity Training for state utility regulators in Philadelphia. This threat is like no other and state regulators and utilities continue to protect from this threat and plan to respond and recover. I was grateful to convey best practices, our efforts in NJ, and actions other states can undertake. And discussions on information sharing, IT/OT, cyber audits, case studies, cyber standards, ransomware, distributed reaources, risk management, mutual assistance, and cost recovery.
