On April 8th, 2024, a total solar eclipse was experienced in different regions in the United States. Through data connected to Nantum AI, we identified multiple insights on how the eclipse alters the normal pattern of the energy systems, buildings, and building occupants. Thank you to the partnership of National Renewable Energy Laboratory and The University of Texas at Dallas with our own R&D team leaders (Ali Mehmani, PhD, Gulai Shen, and Amir Behjat) in the creation of this study! Have you heard about the latest grants distributed by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act? The Environmental Protection Agency is awarding $4.3 billion in grants to fund projects in 30 states to reduce climate pollution. The money will go to 25 projects targeting greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, electric power, commercial and residential buildings, industry, agriculture and waste and materials management. The administration has said the selected projects when combined would reduce greenhouse gas pollution by as much as 150 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) by 2030, or roughly 2 percentage points. The U.S. has pledged to slash its CO2e emissions by 50%-52% by that year.

"Jamestown launched a sustainability program in 2008, long before it became a staple of real estate companies’ business strategy. They recognized early on that utilities are one of the biggest controllable expenses, and if they could make a dent in that and cut costs, it could go a long way to cutting carbon emissions. The company has partnered with Nantum AI, a company that uses AI to better optimize building operations, at properties in San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Since partnering with the company to more efficiently run HVAC systems at the buildings, they have seen a 260 percent return on investment at its San Francisco property. Denning Jackson acknowledged that there is a lot of trial and error with the partnerships but that as more major real estate firms partner with tech companies, it helps build a track record and spur more pilot projects. 'I like to be a first mover, but it can also be high risk,' Denning Jackson said. 'But if I see JLL or Nuveen has piloted one of these companies before, I’m very excited about it. I really rely on the community, and to that end, we’re not alone—everyone is doing really interesting stuff.'" Read more in Propmodo https://hubs.la/Q02G-6h30

The global real estate investment firm Jamestown L.P. is well-known for owning office towers and major mixed-use properties throughout the U.S. 🖥️ Fewer people may know about Jamestown's unique approach to technology and tech partnerships, which is now being implemented across its properties nationwide. A recent Propmodo article delves into how Jamestown has added additional revenue streams through tech partnerships. Tech has been a crucial part of the company’s strategy for years, but Holly Dutton at Propmodo details how Jamestown has leaned heavily into the strategy. Read the Propmodo article here: https://lnkd.in/gjd3ADA4 Some exciting tech strategies at Jamestown include: 💡 Innovation Ideas, an internal program that encourages Jamestown employees to send top-brass tech ideas the company could use in its work. Dutton writes: “Of course, not all of the ideas have been a hit, but the company gets hundreds of submissions yearly, and it helps keep leaders on the pulse with the latest tech and innovations.” 🌎 Another notable example is the sustainability partnership with Nantum AI. This collaboration has enabled Jamestown to run HVAC systems at its buildings more efficiently. In fact, since partnering with Nantum AI, Jamestown has seen a remarkable 260% ROI at one of its San Francisco properties, all thanks to the new AI-powered operational tech. It’s not uncommon for some of Jamestown’s pilot projects to fail. However, the projects that succeed significantly boost tech companies and building owners and drive more use of technology in commercial real estate. 💭 What do you think about Jamestown’s tech partnerships and innovations? Do you know of other top commercial real estate firms with similar success? Let’s discuss this in the comments below! 👇 #proptech #commercialrealestate #technology #realestatetechnology
