Don't miss this! Today in an op-ed published by Boston Globe Media, NAIOP member and Massachusetts Tax Expert Daniel Swift of Ryan writes that Mayor Wu's property tax proposal could cause irreparable harm in Boston's downtown. "The increase could force businesses to make tough decisions about how — and whether — to continue operating, could necessitate businesses passing the costs to consumers, and could hamper efforts to secure tenants for tens of millions of square feet of unoccupied commercial space. New economic growth could come to a halt as the additional tax burden is piled onto the growing list of other cost increases facing developers." https://lnkd.in/gVaXJvsi #mapoli #bospoli

Commercial real estate friends -- I'm teaching a crisis comms seminar for NAIOP! What keeps you awake at night? A. Construction accidents? B. Workplace harassment complaints? C. Permitting process beset by negative community feedback? D. Local Facebook group that always shares inaccurate info about your project? E. Project timelines delayed by financial challenges? My guess is actually ALL of the above and more! If that's the case, come join me at NAIOP University on June 12 for a crash course in managing crisis in the Commercial Real Estate space. We'll talk about spotting the signs of a crisis early, hot topics that are sure to generate news or digital buzz, and ways to share authentic, timely and transparent messages even in fast moving situations. Plenty of time for Q&A and lots of real life scenarios will be discussed. https://lnkd.in/ehRVkyFD PS -- if you are NOT in the CRE industry and interested, drop me a line and we'll find a way to connect on this topic.
