The ideal candidate will be fluent in Spanish and possess a deep understanding of the cultural and educational landscapes that impact EL communities. The CVJC English Learner Reporting Lab reporter position is an exciting opportunity for a journalist to dive into a number of meaty issues. This reporter will have a knack for telling stories centered on people impacted by these issues as well as those working to address the Valley’s many challenges. This reporter will have a proven ability to develop sources and build community connections, as well as demonstrate curiosity about issues affecting communities and cultures in the Central Valley that are not often seen in mainstream media. This reporter must be deadline-oriented and able to balance quick-hit spot coverage with deeper-dive enterprise reporting projects. NAHJ Career Center New Job Texas Chief Political Correspondent: , Texas COURIER Texas Ideally, the candidate selected for this role will work remotely and reside in Austin, Texas. Who We Are COURIER is an online newsroom where we empower individuals and communities through local reporting that helps people understand and affect the issues impacting their lives. We believe that by investing in the work of local journalists across the country we can positively impact civic participation and build a healthier democracy from the ground up. Through original reporting and community-focused storytelling, delivered to audiences where they get their information online, we highlight the issues and forces that shape our lives while calling attention to the impacts of policy-making and political action at the local level. Our Texas Chief Political Correspondent is responsible for leading our political coverage in the state, connecting important policy decisions relevant to the day-to-day lives in a brand-new civic newsroom. This reporter will be a key, early component in our Texas operation as COURIER Newsroom builds up a statewide news outlet devoted to delivering important, empowering news to Texans where they already are–online. This reporter will execute our political coverage and content strategy, as well as develop a personal brand as a go-to voice for civic impact content in the state. In addition, this role requires fostering and maintaining relationships with key political stakeholders in the state. The Chief Political Correspondent will report to the National Political Editor, while working in close coordination with our Texas Managing Director. This position will also oversee between 3 and 4 political reporters, which will be part of regional newsrooms that will be built out over time. The Chief Political Correspondent will be responsible for providing guidance and editorial support to these reporters in conjunction with the broader coverage strategies laid out by the state team and the National Political Editor. This is a remote position, and the ideal candidate will reside in the Austin area, and they will be the lead reporter when it comes to Statehouse news. NAHJ Career Center New Job Audience Engagement Editor: Brooklyn, New York Slate Slate is hiring an audience engagement editor to help grow our website and podcast audiences. Ideal candidates think strategically about connecting with readers and listeners, and building lasting relationships with those audiences, with a focus on deepening engagement. They have a newsy sensibility; know how to write compelling copy for social media feeds; think creatively about how to combat news fatigue; have ideas for accessing new audiences; and are able to use analytics to guide strategy.  Slate values surprising ideas and smart analysis in our journalism, and we want the same on our audience team. The audience engagement editor will be able to identify how digital media trends are evolving and have a desire to experiment with new strategies and test those instincts. They will own projects from start to finish and work collaboratively with the rest of the newsroom. This is a position covered under a collective bargaining agreement between Slate and the Writers Guild of America East.
