Before the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law in 1990, American Disability Movement Activists had been fighting discriminatory practices for over 30 years in an effort to make major strides for disability rights. Their 25-day sit-in in San Francisco remains the longest in U.S. history, and in 1977, their firm stance led to the historic signing of the 504 regulations. NAA reaffirms our commitment to providing resources on accessibility and ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, has a place to call home.
