At Muratec USA, we recognize the importance of inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in STEM fields—science, technology, engineering, and manufacturing. Muratec’s Proposals Manager Celeste Pressley, a former machinist, recently spoke to Girl Scouts Hornet’s Nest Council in Charlotte, NC, as part of a panel of women in STEM fields, including commercial construction, mobile app development, data analysis, nursing, and electrical engineering. Celeste talked to the scouts about metal cutting, process engineering, 3D printing, and programming robots and sensors at Muratec. Some of the girls expressed interest in fiber arts, so Celeste explained the history of NC machines and how the technology was first developed for weaving and knitting. While Celeste's parents encouraged her to pursue her interests in math and science, she was one of only two women in the technology and industrial arts management program at Berea College and the only female machinist among 20 at a former company. “I was one of two girls in my high school physics class. I took three years of drafting as an elective, and I took AP calculus,” Celeste said. “I remember being encouraged to pursue languages, art, teaching, and journalism. No one would have told a boy with my aptitude and interest to consider those careers.” By participating in opportunities like the STEM panel, Celeste hopes she can show girls and young women that there are so many career options available to them. “I want them to feel comfortable asking professionals questions about their careers and how they got where they are,” Celeste said. “I want them to know they don't have to give up everything girly to succeed in these fields.” #thanksforyourservice to the #nextgeneration Celeste. #MuratecMeansMore … #legacybuilding #stem #girlscouts #science #technology #engineering #manufacturing

After the hustle and bustle of IMTS, anyone else having a particularly trying case of the Mondays back at the office today? 🙋♀️ On the first business day after IMTS - International Manufacturing Technology Show, it’s important to remember that it takes a small army of dedicated professionals to pull off what 100,000 or so showgoers sampled on the trade show floor last week. We can’t name everyone on #TeamMuratec who made it happen or even those who remain on site this Monday to oversee the final teardown of our booth, proper packing of 11 machines, and an orderly withdrawal of 10,000 sq. ft. of space – but *we know* and we acknowledge our team with gratitude. After some 15 years, scores of trade show exhibit halls, and a near-infinite number of clockwise motions, Day 6 at IMTS 2024 will mark the Last Hurrah for our beloved and well-recognized Muratec hanging circular sign. A familiar sight at many of our trade events over the years, the Muratec sign proudly identified and marked our exhibitor turf. However, during times of maximum chaos and swells of humans flooding the exhibit hall, this sign served as a proverbial lighthouse beacon for both the lost sheep of the Murata Machinery family and interested customers making a flight to quality to our booth and our brand.
