The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation’s Anchor and Heart Endowment has awarded a $110,325 grant to Munson Healthcare Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital, supporting the Paul Oliver Living and Rehabilitation Center (POLAR). As a long-term care community located within the hospital, POLAR aims to promote a sense of peace and healing and cultivates independence and social, emotional, and mental well-being of its long-term residents. The Anchor and Heart Endowment grant will be used to support POLAR’s mission, allowing for the purchase of a long-term care resident transport van, long-term care mattresses, and parallel bars for therapy. Over the last 17 years, the Community Foundation’s Anchor and Heart Endowment has awarded more than $1.3 million in grants to Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital.

In honor of National Recovery Month, we want to recognize our incredible Peer Recovery Coaches here at Munson. Each of these special coaches offers a unique type of support for our patients in recovery from alcohol, drugs, and other substances. Not only have these inspiring individuals achieved and maintained their own recovery from substance use disorders – but they bring this lived experience to their roles as Peer Recovery Coaches, serving as close confidants, navigators, advocates, and guides for our patients seeking recovery. Hear from Paige, Madie, and Paul as they share their own personal stories and how they support others seeking help to overcome addiction: https://hubs.li/Q02Rlt1W0

“I was diagnosed with cancer about five years ago and started treatment at Cowell Family Cancer Center. The respect for dignity and compassion this team showed was stunning. Upon leaving a treatment session soon after I started, I mentioned to the greeter that someday I was going to work at Munson because I love to help people, and I enjoy listening to them as well. In 2023 I really felt like I needed to make a change in my career. My first thought was Munson. I have been a patient at Munson many times over the years. I have always been amazed by the staff, regardless of their role. I started as a greeter at the main hospital in November of 2023. I had expressed interest in working at Cowell if anything ever became available, and with the support of my team, it all came to fruition. It's hard to explain how much I look forward to coming to work each day. Getting to know the everyday patients and staff by name and welcoming new patients into a network of people who truly care is so rewarding. No day is perfect, but we still try to make a positive impact on each and every person who comes to our door!” —Tim H., Greeter at Cowell Family Cancer Center Read more stories of commitment at https://hubs.li/Q02R8NlS0.
