About us
A lot of companies say they’re “mission-driven.” Our unique corporate structure guarantees that every decision we make upholds our mission: to ensure the internet remains open and accessible. Beholden to neither shareholders nor investors, Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the not-for-profit Mozilla Foundation. Along with our communities of 20,000 contributors and collaborators, Mozilla Corporation’s staff designs, builds, and distributes software that allows people to enjoy the internet on their own terms. Our flagship product — the Firefox browser — has expanded into a family of products that protects users and alerts them of risks, safeguards passwords and provides a secure VPN (with more to come). By maintaining a safe, open internet we're helping humanity, while also helping the individual humans employed here to reach their personal and professional goals. With a relatively small team serving hundreds of millions of people, a culture of exploration, and a commitment to mentorship, opportunities abound to learn and grow at Mozilla.

Dating while Black can be a fraught experience — especially online. This mini-series by #MozillaFellow Dr. Apryl Williams for Word in Black explores the toxic relationship between dating apps and sexual racism. Apryl writes about how mainstream dating platforms fail women of color, and Black women in particular by using scoring metrics underpinned by centuries of racial segregation. In the second op-ed, she gets into how community-focused apps catering to diverse communities like BLK and BlackPeopleMeet (for Black daters), Hawaya (for Muslim daters), and Chispa (Latinx daters) — match up in responding to the failures of mainstream dating platforms. India’s sprawling education system can benefit greatly from data collection and analysis — but also faces related challenges and risks like poor data privacy, outdated technology, and data fragmentation, according to our new research conducted with the Aapti Institute, and funded by USAID. The research, titled “Strengthening Data Ecosystems in Indian Schools,” explores how to responsibly leverage data like enrollment rates, student-teacher ratios, attendance, assessment results, and socio-economic information to shape education policies and interventions. The investigation was carried out over nine months by more than a dozen local experts, and spanned 10 states. Read more: https://mzl.la/4chFFif
