James Savage from The Fund for Global Human Rights notes, "Relationships [are] an enabling condition for the narrative infrastructure that is vital to power building." Shifting resources allows activists and organizations to make thoughtful decisions, prevent harm, and enable narrative practitioners to push forward visions of liberation. Funding with an ecosystem approach builds trust, deepens understanding, and ensures that knowledge and skills are shared widely, strengthening the entire narrative field. Since 1850, "beneficial use" laws have denied them their water rights, deeming their traditional ditch system obsolete. Despite major victories like same sex marriage and open military service, many still face challenges if they cannot or will not come out. But creative, liberatory solutions are emerging. 🌱 Imagine if we gave tax breaks to relationships that provide meaningful mutual support, regardless of their nature — sexual, familial, or platonic. Today marks ten years since Eric Garner's life was brutally taken by New York City police officer Daniel Pantaleo. His death ignited nationwide protests against police brutality and systemic racism. The latter half of 2014 saw young Black artists and cultural workers, particularly from the epicenter of the #BlackLivesMatter movement in Ferguson, leading the way with powerful and creative responses. In 2014, 1,043 people were killed by police. We've lost Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Walter Scott, Gabriella Nevarez, Aura Rosser, Michelle Cusseaux, Tanisha Anderson, and countless others. We are inspired by the story of the Woodland Plantation House in Louisiana, where one of the largest slave revolts in U.S. history began. For the first time, this historic site is under Black ownership. Twin sisters Jo and Joy Banner are transforming the plantation into a museum, reinterpreting the 1811 uprising as a source of inspiration for new generations to confront racism. "While others may see a beautiful plantation home, for us, this space means a lot," Jo Banner says. "It's the knowing we have to keep fighting and knowing what footsteps we're following." The 1811 revolt, led by Charles Deslondes and other enslaved freedom fighters, symbolizes resilience and the ongoing struggle for justice. Tiana lives on Chumash land and is dedicated to creating nurturing spaces for queer and trans people of color. In the blog, Tiana shares, "Liberatory Masculinity is our effort to create generous possibility models for what masculinity can be [and] an intervention that disrupts static and stoic expectations of emotionality, behavior, and expression."
