It's remarkable to see how the pandemic has reshaped our understanding of the intersection between public health and #healthcare. We delved into the critical importance of seamless collaboration between these sectors.   Our conversation highlighted how, in an ideal world, the public might not distinguish between public health efforts and health care services. For instance, in managing infectious diseases like measles and syphilis, health care providers diagnose individual cases, while public health teams conduct contact tracing and community education. This dynamic interplay ensures comprehensive disease management and community protection. #AspenIdeasHealth #AspenIdeas #WeFindAWay

The World Trade Center Health Program Clinical Center of Excellence (CCE) at Mount Sinai recently hosted Dutch occupational medicine experts to share 20 years of insights on caring for 9/11 responders. Dr. Franz van den Nieuwenhof, an occupational medicine physician from VerzuimConsult, a leading consulting firm providing occupational health support to employers, highlighted similarities between COVID-19's impact on Dutch healthcare workers and 9/11 responders. “We are confident that we can learn much from their approach,” he said. Dr. Sandra M. Lowe, Associate Professor, Psychiatry and Environmental Medicine, and Medical Director of the WTC Mental Health Program emphasized, “There are meaningful actions we can take to treat trauma-associated conditions.” The event underscored the importance of international collaboration in enhancing mental health support. #WeFindAWay

Employees, friends, and family gathered, along with Mount Sinai EMS and ambulance, dedicating energy and support with the LGBTQ community. While this year’s march was shortened due to weather, Mount Sinai’s presence at the March has grown over the past decade, with employees across the Health System joining the contingent. Earlier this week, hundreds of people gathered for the dedication of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Health Care Heroes Plaza. Thank you for the generous donation from Iris and Shalom Maidenbaum. The Maidenbaum Health Care Heroes Plaza will serve as a place to remember the selfless efforts of hospital nurses, doctors, and support staff who risked their own well-being to care for thousands of patients throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. #WeFindAWay

After her panel at the Aspen Ideas Festival, Dr. Isabelle Germano is excited about being at the forefront of brain-computer interface (BCI) development. She is hopeful about the future of BCI, especially given the public’s growing interest in how this emerging field can potentially help the 2 billion people with neurological conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and neurodegenerative diseases. #WeFindAWay #AspenIdeas #Neurotech #Neuro #Neurology #Neuroscience

We have expanded our Center for Post-COVID Care—the first and largest center of its kind—to another location to better serve patients in East Harlem and the South Bronx. The new site will help meet the needs of a growing number of patients with long-term symptoms from COVID-19 needing access to world-leading care. It will also enhance long COVID care for minority populations living in underserved communities who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, but underdiagnosed with long COVID. The new location is at Mount Sinai-Internal Medicine Associates at 17 East 102nd Street. Read more: https://mshs.co/3zypLlx #WeFindAWay
