Activating transformational local leadership worldwide.
About us
Mountaintop International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works toward a future where every community can solve its own problems in order to build a just, loving, and peaceful world for all. In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose "Mountaintop" speech called for a locally led movement to stir our global consciousness, Mountaintop cultivates transformational local leadership and strengthens communities in places worldwide where success too often means leaving and not coming back. Mountaintop’s flagship program is a paid, one-year, full-time fellowship for the most promising local leaders to stay in or return to their home communities and contribute to systems change in lower-income places around the world. Mountaintop’s Fellows receive a full-time stipend, two week leadership institute hosted at Harvard University's Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics, 1:1 mentorship, grants, and a lifelong community of inspiring peers to accelerate their local leadership journey and prepare them for large-scale impact to transform their communities and countries.

Big news! We are honored to announce a $120,000 one year gift from Trinity Church Wall Street Philanthropies. In partnership with the innovative team at Trinity including Rob G., Maria Guzman, MPA, and Tony T. R. Lin, Mountaintop is launching the Mountaintop Anglican Fellowship, a new track for some of the world’s most inspiring emerging Anglican leaders. For our first cohort, we will provide a full-time 12-month stipend, 1:1 mentorship, online coursework, and an in-person Leadership Institute in the United States for six Anglican Fellows who are leading social ventures in their home communities across Sub-Saharan Africa. Thanks to Trinity Wall Street Philanthropies, these Fellows will be able to deepen and scale their impact, reaching thousands more community members with initiatives spanning education, public health, workforce development, and women’s empowerment. As a nonpartisan secular organization that is inspired by faith traditions around the world, we are grateful to work hand in hand with individuals and organizations across the religious spectrum to help inspiring leaders reach their full transformational potential. With catalytic partners like Trinity and our growing community of donors who have put their trust in us, we are expanding our work to activate systems-changing local leadership worldwide! https://lnkd.in/gN6EiMhw

Congratulations to our host partner Usikimye for receiving some recognition for the courageous and inspiring work they do every day to fight gender based violence in Kenya.
What's been happening in March? For starters, we were featured on AP! Njeri Wa Migwi touched on how gender-based violence evolves when perpetrators aren't charged, as well as the barriers within the justice system that prevent victims from seeking help.

Congratulations to our newest Fellow, Morlu Dominic Kpalie! Currently, Dominic is the Founder and Executive Director of the Institute for Quality Research & Development (IQRD) Inc., which specializes in conducting qualitative and quantitative research in Liberia with a primary focus on studying women's political participation in elections. For his fellowship, Dominic will be serving as Associate Research Manager with NEPI INC, an international award winning nonprofit using cognitive behavioral therapy and conditional cash transfers to transform the lives of at-risk young men in Monrovia. When Dominic was asked what inspired him to join Mountaintop, he said, "I am impressed by the mission and vision of the Mountaintop Fellowship Program of addressing critical challenges around the globe and finding solutions to those problems through professional development. My goals are to capture how the entity with which I will be working demonstrates strong organizational skills that will strengthen my ability to interact and relate to my responsibilities and promote community development in Liberia."
