  • The Board of County Commissioners warmly welcomed the crew, Chief of the Boat and Commissioning Committee of the United States Ship New Jersey (SSN 796) to Morris County today, as the sailors travel through the Garden State this summer as part of their "Namesake Program." The tour aims to connect the submarine crew to the State of New Jersey through visits ahead of the Sept. 14 commissioning of the U.S. Navy’s latest fast attack submarine. The new USS New Jersey is the first Virginia-based class submarine. Eight members of the crew, which included four men and four women, toured the historic Morristown Green and Washington’s Headquarters while in Morris County. "We are honored to welcome the crew of the USS New Jersey to Morris County," said Director Myers. "Our county is home to so many sites of immense historical importance, and we are proud to share its legacy with the officers and crew who will soon serve on the USS New Jersey. We hope this visit highlights our deep appreciation for their service and connects them to the critical history they protect for our county." Special thanks goes out to the the Office of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill and the USS Commissioning Committee for coordinating with county agencies and organizations to schedule the USS New Jersey crew visit to Morris County. https://ow.ly/nfGM50SJItt

  • Morris County Commissioner John Krickus, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, Hanover Mayor Ace Gallagher and American Legion Post 59 Vice Commander Norus Achmetov joined members of the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey (UACCNJ) on Sunday, July 21. It was an opportunity to hear from the Ukrainian American community and obtain an update from those on the ground in Ukraine. “When we asked our county staff for help, the response was immediate and enthusiastic. What is behind this strong response? I believe it’s very simple. Americans love freedom, and we love people fighting for freedom,” said Commissioner Krickus, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. To date, Morris County has provided the following support to the people of Ukraine, facilitating donations through the UACCNJ: • 100 protective vests and helmets donated by the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. • 100 surplus tactical radios donated by our Department of Law and Public Safety. • Morris County EMS donated surplus medical supplies. • Morris County Office of Emergency Management helped to set up a medical bus donated by the UACCNJ. • Morris County Human Services staff assisted refugees.

  • Morris County officials joined the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum, the Lake Hopatcong Foundation and a host of other state and local dignitaries and residents today in reactivating the restored Hopatcong State Park Fountain – 99 years to the day after it was first opened to visitors. The iconic fountain first opened to the public on July 16, 1925, serving as a popular cooling spot for lake visitors and offering photo opts to families for generations before it was closed in the 1990s due to clogging issues. A restoration effort began in 2014 through funding approved by the Morris County Board of County Commissioners (then called “Morris County Freeholders”), helping the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum in conjunction with the Lake Hopatcong Foundation to complete the work. “This project brought the fountain back to being operational for the first time in more than two decades. It revitalizes our community spirit, provides much-needed aeration for the Musconetcong River, and returns a beloved asset to the community to enjoy for another 99 years,” said Commissioner Deputy Director Stephen Shaw. https://ow.ly/h7zK50SCOAa
