It is a widespread belief that brands not yet selling on Amazon should avoid the marketplace due to the saturation of existing brands with millions of dollars in Amazon sales, thousands of reviews, established share of voice, etc. But is this true or just a myth? Our CEO and Founder, John T. Shea, predicts that this year's Prime Day sales will surpass $14 billion. The following 'middle finger' data compares 2024 Prime Day sales to those of 2023 so far. The trends are similar, with one notable exception: sales are increasing. If these trends persist, 2024 will be on track to be the largest YoY Prime Day sales increase since 2022, 8.04%. #PrimeDay #amazon

Have you ever wondered why your product, despite having a #1 BSR on Amazon, doesn't rank #1 organically for its search term? We did too, so we investigated. We discovered that products with a Top 5 Amazon Best Seller Rank don't appear in the top organic results for 11.3% of high-volume category search terms on Amazon US! We also identified some common attributes among popular search terms in categories where top BSR products are less likely to rank at the top organically: ▪ Larger product assortments ▪ Lower average prices ▪ Revenue more widely distributed across brands Explore the data below, and check out the link in the comments for more details! #amazon #bestsellerrank #bsr

Understanding consumer behavior ahead of major events like #PrimeDay will enable you to maximize the benefits of the 'Prime Day Middle Finger' Read more from John T. Shea below 👀
And this, my friends, is the Prime Day Middle Finger. This chart displays 2023 sales by week for all products on Amazon US indexed to the week of June 3rd. Notice the reduced demand leading up to and after the event; sales are particularly soft for the two weeks immediately surrounding Prime Day. Now, Prime Day sales will more than make up for that, but it's still an interesting dynamic. Many shoppers just aren’t going to convert right before a major sales event when they’re expecting significant discounts. Likewise, discounting can pull forward demand, increasing average order volume, meaning shoppers aren’t going to need to buy as much afterwards. Ultimately, it only really becomes a true middle finger if brands aren't able to convert those one-time Prime Day transactions into repeat purchases over time. In our experience brands can have a strong "lead out" if they are in heavily commoditized categories (pockets with low branded search) and are able to use Prime Day to meaningfully change BSR/Organic Rank creating a halo effect afterwards. This is a bit harder for premium goods in heavily branded environments, but it's not impossible, especially with lower CPCs post-Prime Day. Thanks to David Hosei for asking thought-provoking questions about the "lead up" and "lead out" to Prime Day! This graph and entire discussion started with a LinkedIn comment. If you have any burning Prime Day questions, please let me know in the comments (it might end up becoming its own post)!

🚀 As usual, our friends Momentum Commerce are bringing creative and effective strategies for utilizing your Prime Day budget! 🎉 📉 There is a point of diminishing returns on search advertising during Prime Day. 📊 Across both short- and long-term analyses, brands that increased their paid appearances on Amazon by 25% or more during Prime Day saw relatively muted returns. 💡 Brands are likely better off aiming for a slightly more modest increase in paid visibility while devoting any additional promotional budget to discounts. 📈 Have a clear view of the price elasticity of demand for your products before Prime Day. Shoutout to Andrew Waber for these valuable insights! #PrimeDay #DiversifySpend #Advertising #Promotion #Amazon https://lnkd.in/e_2t9XXe
