For about two years, Lesley Reed has relied on the Mid-Ohio Market at Columbus State while pursuing her degree. Last semester, when she had to bring her groceries to class because of the bus schedule, she felt embarrassed—until a classmate spoke up. "She said, 'You went to the market, that's cool.' I felt supported and seen," Lesley shared. "It felt like a community after that—people looking out for each other, making sure everyone gets fed." This Hunger Action Month, help us spread the word that it’s OK to ask for help! Share this post or submit your own food assistance story at mofc.org/mystory. #HungerActionMonth #GoOrange

We’re incredibly grateful to our friends at Bread Financial for their continued partnership in the fight against hunger. This #HungerActionMonth, they’ve made a generous $1.25 million gift to support our eight Mid-Ohio Markets. Bread Financial’s ongoing partnership and commitment to improving food access and uplifting vulnerable communities has been a driving force behind the success of our Mid-Ohio Markets strategy. We deeply appreciate their dedication to championing our mission and helping us build healthier, hunger-free communities. #HungerActionMonth #GoOrange
Today, in recognition of #HungerActionMonth, we announced a $1.25 million gift to Mid-Ohio Food Collective that will support the organization’s eight Mid-Ohio Markets and improve food accessibility, promote health through nutritious food options and enhance convenience for vulnerable populations throughout central and eastern Ohio. This latest gift is in addition to a $1.4 million contribution made in 2020 that supported MOFC’s operating budget and the development of a digital analytics platform used to inform the current Mid-Ohio Markets strategy. “Columbus built me. I want to give back." This #HungerActionMonth, Columbus’ own Avishar Barua joined us at the Mid-Ohio Kitchen at Reeb to lend a hand. An OSU alumnus, former Top Chef contestant, and the visionary behind Agni and Joya's, Barua has made a name for himself in the world of food. A heartfelt thank you to Avishar for not just sharing his culinary talents, but for bringing his passion for community and service to the table. At The Refuge Ohio, a faith-based addiction recovery center, the journey toward healing begins with something as simple as sharing a meal. Last year, Mid-Ohio Food Collective provided over 200,000 pounds of food to The Refuge, with nearly all of it at no cost. In fact, 95% of all the food MOFC distributes to its partner agencies is provided free of charge. This ensures that organizations like The Refuge can focus on supporting our neighbors without the added burden of covering food costs.
