  • Beginning tomorrow, May 2, A Mano is donating to MODA on your behalf when you dine in or order take-out every Thursday in May. A Mano believes in the importance of supporting the community. They take the meaning of the word "restaurant" (which means to restore) seriously and strive to give back to the surrounding neighborhood as much as possible. With your support (of design and good food), we can continue to bring more design exhibitions, programs, and workshops to Atlanta! Make a reservation for any and all Thursdays in May:  https://lnkd.in/gAkXkFNk

What a delight to dig back into Charlotte Burgess Auburn’s wondrous #dschoolguide, “You Need A Manifesto.” And better still? To join *you*, my #ATL friends, at Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) for our next Catalyst meet-up around this book! If you are free on WED 3/20 @ 6:30 PM, join me, Dr. Stacey M. Jones Lee, Mary Catherine Kelly as we lean into this work of “recruiting ourselves to our own cause” of be(com)ing curious, available, and active in the pursuit of the life we yearn to live out there. As always, all are welcome and the price of admission includes your own copy of the book. We’ll learn alongside some local creatives - like my homie Jared Colley - and engage in hands-on, real-life manifest(o)ing. Come through!

  • Who was Jane Jacobs? She was an urbanist, activist, and writer, perhaps best known for her book "The Death and Life of Great American Cities." She challenged conventional trends in urban planning, emphasized community-driven development, and contributed to our current understanding of sustainable urban environments. Now, the first weekend of every May, Jacobs' legacy is honored with Jane's Walk: an annual global festival of free, citizen-led walking tours through the neighborhoods that lend so much character to our cities. Jane's Walk promotes civic engagement, and it connects leaders and participants as they walk together, sharing the stories of different communities. The best part? Anyone can lead a walk! So if there's something you want everyone to know about your favorite neighborhood, this is your chance to make an impact on how others see Atlanta. To learn more (and to propose your own walk), just click the link below! We look forward to working together in highlighting some of our city’s hidden gems! https://lnkd.in/e4nJ-5As

  • What are the secrets to building a forty-year career in illustration? How can drawing shape one’s success in the fields of art and design? For the answers to these questions, we recommend seeking the advice of an expert, and we’re making it easy. In partnership with Miami Ad School, we'll be hosting California-based illustrator Craig Frazier for a Design Conversation tomorrow, February 21. He’ll discuss the twists and turns of his four decades in design while showing examples of his work and talking about his new book, “Drawn.” Afterwards, he will sign copies of “Drawn” (available for purchase in MODA’s DESIGN SHOP) while visiting with attendees. Seating is limited – go ahead and grab your ticket at the link in our bio! https://lnkd.in/de2MjQwN

  • We live in an age of ambiguity. Confronting the unknown is part of our daily lives, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. So how can we learn to embrace ambiguity? How can we leverage it to create new opportunities? On Wednesday, February 7th, join us at the museum for the next session of Catalyst: a series for those who are passionate about design and the ways in which it can change their lives. We’ll dive into the Stanford d.school book “Navigating Ambiguity” in a hands-on workshop facilitated by our friends at The Mount Vernon School. We’ll begin with an introduction to the book before discussing its main ideas hearing from others who use ambiguity to make positive changes to their lives and careers. • Last weekend we opened our latest exhibition, Please Be Seated: A Century of Chair Design, in partnership with Switch Modern, Dolce&Gabbana Casa, and Cartessa Design. The exhibit covers more than 150 years of chair design and explores the stories behind exquisite pieces of furniture by designers Eileen Gray, Ron Brad, Phillippe Stark, Verner Panton, Paola Lenti, and more! Please Be Seated also examines Shirley Chisholm's iconic statement, "If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair," with an interactive activity that asks visitors to think about chairs as symbols of space, identity, and empowerment. Come see the exhibition in person! Open Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00 – 7:00 PM. Additionally, for a deeper dive into the stories of the phenomenal chairs, join us for our first tour THIS Saturday, January 27, at 2:00 PM. Registration link below. https://lnkd.in/ectqCpGH
