Before Clint came to MSPD eight years ago, he was working in corporate law in Chicago, IL. Based on a recommendation from a law school friend on how fulfilling and amazing the work with MSPD was, Clint came to the Fulton Trial office. He determined that the work with MSPD was much more interesting than corporate contracts! - and he loves both his work with MSPD and the Fulton office. Clint has several proud public defender moments - many of them occur after a win, being hugged by crying clients and family members. Being told and reminded that he and his team at MSPD were able to make a positive difference - not only his client's life, but their family's lives as well - is irreplaceable. Knowing that, as a public defender, sometimes he is the only one standing up for his clients, is a reward in itself. Working in the MSPD system is fantastic as well. "I love my co-workers and the perspective and support they provide. No matter what my issue is, my office is there to support and assist me, which is more valuable than I can say. The support and camaraderie is my favorite aspect of MSPD." When asked about practicing law in Missouri, Clint says, "Working in Missouri allows me to represent people in my own community that I can easily relate to. Also, I am familiar with local laws that my friends and family always have questions about." Are you interested in an amazing and fulfilling opportunity to practice law and make a difference? Leanne Hourihan came to be a public defender with MSPD after several different jobs working with marginalized populations, and a term teaching English in Spain. She says, "I really wanted to be in service to other people; I did the defense clinic at Saint Louis University School of Law with Susan McGraugh and saw how our work had an impact and changed the outcome of a specific situation. I saw how drawing attention to an unjust situation could actually make a difference." Leanne really enjoyed the fight for justice, and continues to fight, earning the confidence and trust of her clients and building her reputation as a good attorney who clients can trust. When asked what she loves about being a public defender in rural Missouri, Leanne says she loves really getting to practice law with good attorneys in the Poplar Bluff office. Life is simple in SE Missouri - it's quieter and she has a great work/life balance. Her ten minute commute certainly helps! Leanne appreciates how the MSPD system always has her back. She is supported and encouraged to try new ideas and be creative with litigation. She says, "Public Defenders are great - we don't take ourselves too seriously - the work is hard, but community is good!" Are you interested in practicing law in a meaningful environment with great colleagues? Check out our vacancies today! https://lnkd.in/g4je5etb

👏🏼👏🏼 small towns put in work! After venting to my mom about our clients not having clothes, she posted a Facebook status asking for donations. My Illinois hometown SHOWED OUT. All of these clothes crossed state lines because people cared. The look of relief and gratitude that crosses a client’s face when I tell them we have them covered for clothes, hygiene items, and even shoes is an amazing thing I wish all of our donors could witness. After such hardship, it’s one less worry. Without my mom crowdsourcing and one of our own attorneys and her husband bringing in boxes of brand new items, some of our clients would be released with nothing more than the clothes on their back. Sometimes they don’t even have shoes. Now, we can help meet their basic needs so they can better focus on their court matters. Thank you to our communities for coming together to help people that many don’t give a second chance. You all did, and that can change the trajectory of their lives. Continue to be kind, it is beyond appreciated 🤍
