𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 — and yesterday at #MI9, Mission Innovation launched two major initiatives that reflect our commitment to an inclusive and equitable energy future. 🌱 The new 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘁 workstream will enable MI to champion greater gender equality and diversity in clean energy innovation. Working closely with the CEM Equality In Energy Transitions, we have launched the joint 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, raising awareness of inclusivity principles across MI and Clean Energy Ministerial. As part of this collaboration, MI is also proud to join the #EqualBy30 campaign, committing to gender equality at the heart of the global clean energy transition. 🎉 Alongside this, the 𝗠𝗜 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗸 launched its 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 in collaboration with the Carbon Dioxide Removal Mission and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The series aims to advance knowledge sharing events and reports for MI members and partners on key just transition topics such as community engagement, gender equality, youth empowerment, and energy poverty. 🗣️To kick off the series, today the MI Think Tank convened leading voices from International Energy Agency (IEA), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), SDG7 Youth Constituency, and CarbonRun to share insights and concrete examples on how community engagement can drive just outcomes in the early stages of clean energy and carbon removal RD&D. With these initiatives, MI is working to ensure that the energy transition is 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗱 and that all voices are heard as we work together toward a sustainable future. #InclusiveTransition #CleanEnergy #GenderEquality #CommunityEngagement #JustTransition #CEM15MI9

Today at #CEM15MI9, the Carbon Dioxide Removal Mission had an active day...:) ➡ We co-hosted with the MI Think Tank and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) a milestone event on the importance of community engagement in clean energy R&D (expertly moderated by Mark de Figueiredo of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)!). Shannon Sterling from CarbonRun spoke about community involvement in carbon removal projects, sharing their world-class approach involving local and First Nations communities in the site selection process, project design and the sharing of project data. ➡ We co-hosted the launch of Mission Innovation’s new “Inclusivity Series” - a series of events and reports for the MI Community to strengthen their knowledge on just transition topics. Great to see the #MI community building momentum behind this important topic. ➡ As carbon dioxide removal grows globally, the Carbon Dioxide Removal Mission is committed to just transition principles and helping the global #CDR community support high-quality projects that deliver not only economic - but also environmental, social, and health benefits to communities where projects and infrastructure are built. ➡ We also joined our friends at the Integrated Biorefineries Mission at their event on “Bioresources for Fuels, Chemicals and Carbon Removal”. A common classification system for bioresources is badly needed!

The Mission Innovation Carbon Dioxide Removal Mission is pleased to extend its gratitude and celebrate our Silver Sponsor to the #SMARTCDR Competition ➡ Carbon Engineering! Carbon Engineering (CE) was founded in 2009 with a clear mission – to develop and commercialize a technology that captures carbon dioxide (#CO2) directly out of the atmosphere at large-scale. Today, the first commercial facility to use CE’s technology, which is being developed by 1PointFive, is under construction in #Texas and expected to begin commercial operations in mid-2025. Once fully operational, the facility - named #STRATOS - is expected to be the largest in the world. CE leverages decades of experience in operating within measuring, reporting, and verification systems and regulations for geologic carbon dioxide injection and sequestration. Recognizing the high importance of #MRV for CDR, CE is providing US$10,000 to the #MICDR #SMARTCDR Competition. “Transparent and thorough monitoring, reporting and verification is critical for maintaining confidence in high-integrity carbon dioxide removal solutions, growing the CDR market and scaling technologies to help meet climate goals. Carbon Engineering is proud to support the MI CDR SMART Competition, drawing on our experience in Direct Air Capture development, helping to inspire the next generation of CDR leaders and advancing durable carbon removal.” - Adam Baylin-Stern – Policy and Engagement Lead, Carbon Engineering Thank you CE for your generosity and commitment to sustainability and supporting the workforce of the future! The Mission Innovation Carbon Dioxide Removal Mission is pleased to extend our gratitude and celebrate our Silver Sponsor to the SMART CDR Competition: Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (OIES)! OIES is a world-leading independent energy research institute, specialising in advanced research into the economics and geopolitics of the energy transition. Under its Carbon Management research Programme, OIES investigates key issues pertinent to the development of carbon capture and storage (#CCS) and carbon removal (#CDR) solutions, including enabling policy and regulatory frameworks in different sectors and regions. OIES recognizes that one of the most urgent challenges for the scalability of CCS and CDR is #MRV, especially at a time when transparency and credibility around the technologies’ role and potential for climate mitigation have been brought to the spotlight. That’s why OIES is taking action to partner with MI CDR and joining the SMART CDR Competition as a silver sponsor, providing USD $10,000. “OIES supports research on the development of promising CDR solutions and overcoming challenges to their deployment, including issues pertaining to MRV. In addition to the cash prizes, OIES offers winners the opportunity to collaborate on developing their ideas and potentially publish their project findings beyond the scope of the competition.” Hasan M. – Head of Carbon Management Research Thank you, OIES, for your generosity and commitment to sustainability and supporting the workforce of the future!
