🔎 At this year’s MI Annual Gathering, our Technical Advisory Group (TAG) showcased the key takeaways from their first annual review of MI’s seven Missions to ensure that they are on track, to uncover any risks and barriers to Missions’ progress, and to make the Missions aware of any gaps or opportunities. Overall, the TAG found that the Missions are making strong progress towards their respective goals and should be commended for the work they have delivered to date. 🏆   To help Missions continue to increase their impact, some key recommendations from the review included: 🤝 Missions must continue to explore opportunities for collaboration in areas of cross-sector dependency and knowledge-sharing. ⚙ Missions need to be flexible to track and respond to changes in the complex clean energy environment, which may mean adjusting goals to be within their scope of influence. 🕳 The role of Missions in identifying gaps and barriers within innovation ecosystems and advocating best practices to strengthen national innovation ecosystems should be enhanced. 📈 Quantitative KPIs must be expanded, as necessary instruments for tracking short-term operational and long-term progress. 🗣 Greater attention should be put on communicating successes and outcomes of Mission activities, as this is vital to achieving maximum impact. It was a pleasure to co-host a session with the brilliant Peter Schniering at the Future Cleantech Festival 2024! Thank you to Future Cleantech Architects for the invitation. We focused on intergovernmental approaches to disruptive innovation, hearing from UN Technical Executive Committee Chair Thibyan Ibrahim, Brian Hotani from the German Ministry for Disruptive Innovation, Ann-Kathrin Lipponer from MI’s valued partner International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and Jürgen Hardt from German Bundestag. It was an inspirational discussion, bringing together students, industry, start-ups, journalists and policy makers in the amazing setting of the Remscheid City Hall. 💡   Key takeaways:   ❇ When working together, remember that innovation isn’t one-size-fits-all. Focus on the right solutions and approaches for each unique context. ❇Governments play a crucial role in creating an enabling environment for rapid and effective innovation. ❇We need to urgently share learnings to support startups and find ways to bring together expertise, including legal and management consultancy. #cleanenergy #disruptiveinnovation #energytransition
