“Please don’t hurt me” were the first words Sonya Massey said to the police when she opened her front door. 💔 Black people, especially Black women, have an innate ability to sense malevolence and danger before they happen. We are always on high alert because we know we are the most hated group of people in the world. Her life was taken by thug officer with five prior resignations/terminations and two DUIs. How in the blue jeans was he allowed to serve on any police force and as a deputy no less! I’m surprised DEI isn’t being blamed for this seeing as it’s being blamed for everything else going wrong in the world. Sonya Massey should still be alive. We are grateful to have been a part of this pilot to support Black and Brown young adults, created by them through an advisory council. Glad to have supported the mental health and wellness aspect of young adulthood. Thank you!

Week 1 of the Co-Lab was a huge success. We exceeded all expectations and we know things are going to keep getting better week over week. Last week 18 youth participated in Co-Lab experiences, started to create a community they could feel a part of and had some fun! This is possible because of all the incredible partners from week 1. Thank you James Cooper, Hired!, Career Village, YMCA of the North, Roots Wellness Center, Blaze Credit Union, Junior Achievement North, St Paul College, Doherty Family College, Rêve Academy, ECMC Group, ECMC Foundation, ConnextMSP

Big Announcement! We need help. Dear Community and Potential Funders, Roots Wellness Center (RWC) celebrates a decade of impactful service as a beacon of holistic, trauma-centered care for the BIPOC community. Founded by Katy Armendariz, LICSW, a transracial adoptee committed to systemic change, RWC addresses critical gaps in culturally responsive mental health and addiction services. Our innovative programs in the Twin Cities highlight the ongoing need for a central community wellness hub. The Midway area of St. Paul requires a culturally responsive approach to heal systemic disparities. The transformation of the Keystone Community Center into a community wellness hub will honor its legacy while meeting current neighbor needs. Our vision includes holistic mental and substance use services, culturally responsive therapy, trauma-informed care, and outpatient treatment for substance use. Programmatic goals encompass economic empowerment, youth programs, and community resources & navigation. We are ready to start the construction phase of our Community Wellness Hub but need your support to reach our $75,000 goal. Your donation will impact the Midway area and broader Twin Cities community, promoting healing, resilience, and systemic change for underserved residents. Together, let's create hope and lasting positive change. To donate, visit our donation page: https://lnkd.in/gJPm77rC Thank you for your support, and please help spread the word!

Immediate Openings for Transformative Therapy Services! We are excited to announce immediate openings for anti-oppressive, de-westernized therapy for children and adults. Our services are provided by Black and Brown clinicians through telehealth, outpatient, or in-home sessions (limited slots)! We also have immediate openings for diagnostic assessments to initiate services. Our therapeutic team is dedicated to holistically healing trauma in the vagus nerve using somatic, culturally rooted, bilateral practices. These methods draw on the intuitive wisdom of our ancestors, which have been overshadowed by the colonization and westernization of mental health. We focus on de-pathologizing normal survival responses to abnormal societal conditions, aiming to restore and nurture the whole person. In addition, we offer walk-in comprehensive assessment hours for treatment on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM! Contact us today to begin your healing journey! https://rwc-mn.com/ #MentalHealth #Therapy #BlackClinicians #BrownClinicians #TraumaHealing #CulturalHealing #Telehealth #OutpatientTherapy #HolisticHealing #DeWesternizedTherapy

This is truth! The dominant economic paradigm is Win-Lose competition over money. It leaves immense wasted wealth on the table in the form of underutilized business capacity: college desks are empty more than they are full; grocery store aisles, full of groceries, are empty of customers more than they are full; restaurants, movie, theaters, shopping malls, auto dealerships… All empty more than they are full. We can do so much better! #RiseTogether

The black sheep usually doesn't follow the crowd because every once in a while, the crowd is literally going the wrong way in mass. It takes a black sheep to stand out and say, 'Hey, I think we're headed off a cliff here!' They may be labeled as outcasts or rebels, but in reality, they're the ones who are brave enough to challenge the status quo and forge their own path. Let's celebrate the black sheep in our lives - the ones who inspire us to think differently, to question the norms, and to embrace our individuality.

We increasingly see the need to address burn out in all sectors, but the non-profit sector is being hit especially hard. Shifting priorities, lack of flexible and reliable funds at a time when community needs are accelerating are a recipe for depleted staff, limited capacity and high turnover. This report from the Center for Effective Philanthropy highlights how some in philanthropy are recognizing and addressing this trend, but more focused attention on tending to the wholeness of folks working in community is required.
