The Direct Admissions Minnesota program was recently highlighted in National Association for College Admission Counseling: The Journal of College Admissions, outlining how students who are participating in the program have higher FAFSA filing and college enrollment rates compared to non-participants. Direct Admissions also boosts confidence in high school seniors, allowing them to apply for free to multiple schools, knowing that they are guaranteed acceptance to the colleges and universities on their personalized lists. Through Direct Admissions, Minnesota students are able to easily apply to multiple college options - so they can choose the best institution for them! At the beginning of their senior year, students at participating Direct Admissions high schools receive a letter that lists all the Minnesota colleges and universities offering them proactive admission. Students can select and move forward with multiple schools, allowing families to later compare colleges' financial aid offers and make an informed choice. OHE awarded $950,000 in Early Childhood and Family Education (ECFE) Teacher Shortage Grants to three postsecondary institutions: Minnesota State University Moorhead, University of Minnesota and University of St. Thomas. The grant program will support pathways for many individuals, particularly future educators from rural communities and students of color, in completing programs that lead to ECFE-related teacher licenses in Minnesota. Funds will provide tuition relief in student scholarships, targeted recruitment for students, as well as other support services. The ECFE Teacher Shortage Grant program is a one-time grant opportunity that was established by the 2023 Minnesota Legislature. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dds_ktqE

REMINDER: It's not too late for postsecondary institutions to apply for an Inclusive Higher Education Grant. In collaboration with the Institute on Community Integration, the Minnesota Office of Higher Education is accepting proposals for this new competitive grant, which is designed to expand college access and enrollment for students with an intellectual or developmental disability. Any public, nonprofit or tribal postsecondary two- or four-year institution is eligible to apply. The first grant cycle will focus on funding the development of new high-quality, inclusive higher education programs, as well as enhance existing opportunities. Applications are due by July 25. Are you a family member of someone with a traumatic brain injury or a veteran with a traumatic brain injury? Provide your unique insights and perspectives to help shape research in Minnesota! The Office of Higher Education is seeking individuals to fill two seats on the Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury (SCI-TBI) Advisory Council. This group shapes, develops, and advises OHE on the SCI-TBI Research Grant Program. This grant provides $3 million annually to research institutions in Minnesota; many of these projects have received national notoriety and have already helped Minnesotans gain mobility and a better quality of life. The council’s work not only benefits the academic community, but also has a real-life impact for people with SCIs and TBIs.
