Through our Crossroads to Justice strategic plan, the Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness committed to five bold Results that will drive significant movement towards housing, racial and health justice. Result 3 states, “A robust crisis response, geared toward housing outcomes, supports people who are unsheltered, in emergency shelters, and in community.” Three key Strategies support this Result: 🔑 Invest in and support additional outreach responses that reach people wherever they are and help make connections to housing providers. 🔑 Increase safe indoor crisis options statewide that are low barrier, harm reduction, and culturally responsive to meet people’s needs. 🔑 Support a consistent and systemic approach across jurisdictions to improve outcomes for people sleeping in encampments. People experiencing homelessness have the right to vote, and providers are allowed to support their efforts to register. Be sure to join MICH’s webinar on October 2 for a deeper discussion with staff from the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State on this fundamental right, including how to register if you’re staying outdoors or in a shelter. The view of the future is bright for 50 families who now call Vista 44 in Hopkins home! Created by Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative, Vista 44 pairs deeply affordable rents with onsite services provided by Volunteers of America Minnesota and Wisconsin, a combination known as supportive housing that helps families thrive. Project-based vouchers through the Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities (part of MICH) ensure rents stay affordable for families, all of whom have low incomes and many who are coming out of homelessness. Congratulations on yesterday’s grand opening to all the partners who joined together to make Vista 44 possible, including Beacon, VOA, the Met Council, Minnesota Housing, Hennepin County, the City of Hopkins – and especially the families who make Vista 44 not just a building, but a home. #affordablehousing #TwinCities #Minnesota #endhomelessness #home
