The Minnesota Concrete Council Scholarship Applications are OPEN! Earlier this week, the Minnesota Concrete Council hosted their annual MCC Big Shoot & Scholarship Fundraiser, which raises funds for these scholarship awards! We are pleased with the student involvement we have (10 students participated in the Big Shoot!) and look forward to supporting these students and more as they pursue their futures in the industry! Thank you to Jeff Dzurik for sharing with the Minnesota Concrete Council members about the challenges and triumphs of the Essentia Health - St. Mary's Medical Center project in Duluth, Minnesota. With a project of this magnitude, including 18 ft thick walls, and rock excavation, there were a lot of lessons learned!

The ACI Foundation is serving the concrete industry by establishing and distributing fellowships and scholarships to high potential students in concrete-related graduate and undergraduate degree programs. This year they have 48 awards available! Students MUST be enrolled in a full-time, concrete program, for the 2025-2026 academic year. In addition, the ACI Foundation will be hosting a free, virtual information session on the fellowship and scholarship application process. Students can meet with ACI Foundation staff for a brief presentation on application requirements, and an open discussion on the process. The free information session will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. ET. This event will be hosted on the Zoom Webinar platform. Concrete is a fundamental part of most buildings, and this project is no exception. With 42,000cy placed across two city blocks, 100’ of foundation elevation change and through 2 years of COVID-19; this project experienced the gambit of challenges when working with concrete. Come along the journey as we discuss 18ft thick walls, rock excavation impacts and building in Duluth on the shores of Lake Superior.
