🛠️ DUAL USE TECHNOLOGIES ✈️ "Posto che la #BayArea per sua natura non presta grande attenzione ad annunci o eventi autocelebrativi, la scorsa settimana abbiamo costruito un momento di approfondimento su un tema specifico (li chiamiamo Innovation Industry Talk) di scottante attualità: "#Defence Tech e #DualUse Technologies". E visto che, senza dati, si va poco lontano abbiamo analizzato a fondo questo ambito emergente, che, come gran parte delle nuove cose che succedono, i dataset tradizionali (basati su tags settoriali o tecnologici), non riescono a tracciare". 📊 Le Defense Tech Scaleup raccolgono in media (dati medi ad oggi) 67 milioni di dollari. Quasi il doppio di una scaleup che sviluppa tecnologie con applicazione puramente commerciale ($43M). 📕 "Dual-use technologies: Going Beyond the Dual-Use Divide" is the title of the new report we launched yesterday in San Francisco in collaboration with Fincantieri, supported by Crunchbase. It's a pioneering study that provides an in-depth look into this rapidly growing sector. 👩🏻💻 Our analysis, focused on NATO and allied nations, mapped approximately 60,000 technology #scaleups across 47 countries. Of these, 15,260 – about 25% – are working on Dual-Use technologies with applications across civilian and military sectors. Within this subset, 885 companies (1.5% of the total) already implement solutions for the #military or #defense sectors. This group includes 170 firms dedicated solely to Defense Tech (Pure Defense Tech) and 715 that began as civilian solutions and later pivoted towards defense (Dual-Use Defense Tech). Right now, only 5% of these companies serve both sectors, highlighting a vast potential for growth. However, in some countries, that percentage is far higher. Interested to learn more?
