What does it sound like to be part of a community dedicated to open inquiry and viewpoint diversity? In this month's newsletter you can read a high school student's perspective on viewpoint diversity, hear how a masters student changed her thinking about contentious topics, and get introduced to our upcoming Democracy Project and professional development opportunities for teachers. Check it out here 👇 https://lnkd.in/gM_SC7r6

We do not have to settle for silence when it comes to contentious topics in the classroom. Students want to talk about things that matter in our society: Identity, fairness, justice, politics, global conflicts to name only a few. If you have been avoiding these conversations because you don't know where to start, or you aren't sure how to dive in without things going off the rails, our teacher fellowship is the place for you. Join a community of teachers who care about: * Exploring complex issues through multiple, sometimes conflicting, viewpoints * Critical thinking and an open and rigorous search for the truth * Moving away from a stance of being certain and towards one of being simply curious * Exploring ideas rather than promoting any particular ideology Learn More 👇 https://lnkd.in/gZbEzpHH

The purpose of this fellowship is to build a strong community for educators who: * Care deeply about supporting a strong civic dialogue * Believe that our public discourse has become far too polarized * Want to engage their students in discussions about current events - like the war in Gaza and the student protest movement or the upcoming presidential election - but are worried that it will all just go off the rails * Are looking for strategies to bring more viewpoint diversity into their classroom conversations * Want their students to follow their boundless intellectual curiosity as far as it will take them By joining our fellowship, you will: 👉Become part of a vibrant community of educators dedicated to viewpoint diversity and open inquiry 👉Travel to Austin for an in-person collaboration weekend. 👉Receive in-depth training on the Mill Institute's Framework, designed to engage students in meaningful discussions across ideological divides. 👉Develop and refine innovative classroom resources that encourage critical thinking and open dialogue. 👉Receive a $1,000 stipend to support your professional development efforts. We are so proud to have hosted Alpha High School for this important conversation. The most remarkable thing was how students were able to explore the narratives on both the Israeli and the Palestinian sides. They were curious, engaged and insightful. Highlight of our week!
