Advancing Transparent #BeneficialOwnership in #Zambia: Open Ownership has been working with the Zambia Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) and private sector organisations to build consensus on beneficial ownership #transparency to help strengthen Zambia’s anti-corruption systems. Last week, we spoke at a high level meeting in Lusaka organised by USAID, the International Monetary Fund and the Government of Zambia to discuss strengthening Zambia’s regulations of beneficial ownership laws. The workshop is supported by the USAID Global Accountability Program, through the Zambian Accelerating Transparency and Integrity (#ZATI) Activity, which works to strengthen key anti-corruption institutions and processes, promote accountability, integrity, and transparency across the public sector.

🌟 #MillenniumPartners Advocates for Combatting Hate-based Crimes in Moldova🌟 On September 20, the Millennium Partners' Addressing Hate-Based Crimes in Moldova Project (AHC) conducted a workshop for its ten grantees on how to use advocacy to address hate-based crimes. The workshop is one in a series of AHC’s planned event to foster partnerships and benefit from synergies among its awardees. AHC’s grantees actively engaged in discussions at the workshop, which was conducted as part of the #UnitedAgainstHateCrimes awareness campaign. Advocacy was highlighted as the unifying theme for strong, like-minded AHC partners who are striving for more impactful and sustainable outcomes in combatting hate crimes in Moldova. Alona Țurcanu, an experienced advocacy expert, led the workshop and offered valuable insights while promoting a collaborative, learning-focused environment. Participants came away with fresh ideas and strategies to bolster their advocacy efforts and form meaningful partnerships. "The workshop exceeded my expectations, offering a highly practical experience with a well-balanced mix of theory and practice. The interactive format, along with the practical examples, not only deepened my understanding but also provided valuable tools I can apply immediately," shared Leo Zbanke, Organizational Development Coordinator at GENDERDOC-M, an organization that fights for the rights of the LGBTQ persons. Olga Batca, project coordinator of Roma Women's Platform "ROMNI," added: "Even with our significant experience in advocacy, this workshop was eye-opening for us. We explored subtle factors that can cause advocacy campaigns to fail, but we also learned strategies that can ensure success. The practical examples and in-depth analysis left us feeling more confident on how to implement our future efforts." Throughout the event, AHC focused on creating a productive space for organizations to share challenges, explore new advocacy initiatives, and unite efforts under common goals. The workshop series for AHC Grantees will continue with sessions in late October and November 2024.

𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗪𝗮𝗿 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: In her latest article, Andrea Currie-Edwards, Senior Technical Advisor for Anti-Corruption and Illicit Finance at Millennium Partners, argues that malign foreign actors are driving the civil war. International powers have weaponized corrupt practices by supplying arms and resources to further their foreign policy objectives, prioritizing their interests over the well-being of the Sudanese people and exploiting the country's natural resources, which contributes to the ongoing civil war and humanitarian crisis. She underscores the urgent need for stronger awareness of the Sudan crisis and response to #StrategicCorruption and malign foreign influence. This pattern of destabilizing corrupt influence highlights the urgent need for a clearer definition of strategic corruption and foreign malign influence across U.S. agencies to effectively combat illicit activities, enhance #accountability, and end the war and exploitation of the Sudanese people. 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gbx-p8sM #MalignForeignInfluence #AntiCorruption #MillenniumPartners #IllicitFinance

Thanks to USAID’s E-Governance Activity, employees of the Public Procurement Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina can now use qualified e-signatures, issued by the certified authority JP BH Pošta ✍️📄. Here’s why it matters: 🔒 Employees can now sign documents electronically with the same legal validity as handwritten signatures. ⏳ #eSignatures streamline processes, letting the Agency focus on its crucial role—managing public spending across the country. 💡 By adopting digital tools, BiH is driving greater transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public administration. #USAIDBiH #ProjekatEuprave #EGovernanceActivity #eSignature #DigitalTransformation
Another important step in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s digital transformation! Today, we celebrated JP BH Pošta becoming certified to provide secure, qualified e-signature certificates for the Public Procurement Agency of BiH. This means that when a Public Procurement Agency of BiH employee needs to sign a document, they can now do so electronically and securely, with the same legal validity as handwritten signatures. E-signatures will save this important public institution time and money, letting it focus on its critical mission of managing all public spending across this country. By embracing e-signature and other advanced digital solutions in the work of government institutions, we’re changing old practices and shaping a modern public sector that will better serve citizens and businesses, ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency! #USAIDBiH #ProjekatEuprave #EGovernanceActivity #ePotpis #eSignature #DigitalnaTransformacija #DigitalTransformation

We are thrilled to see USAID’s new Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG) Policy launched in July 2024. The Policy sets forth the "pivots" and "principles" underlying USAID’s updated programmatic approach to democratic governance, strengthened human rights, and inclusive development for all. Millennium Partners' current work with USAID on the Global Accountability Program (https://lnkd.in/gk_h_8WD) is contributing to advancing the DRG Policy’s objectives by improving the capacity of countries and regions to tackle transnational corruption, grand corruption, and kleptocracy. This elevates anti-corruption as a critical element for democracy and development. We are also proud that our work with USAID on the Bosnia and Herzegovina E-Governance Activity is fostering open, accessible, and inclusive digital environments that improve governmental transparency in decision-making and public spending.
