About us

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) enters its 53rd year of intercollegiate competition with the 2023-24 academic school year. Located in Norfolk, Va., the MEAC is made up of eight outstanding historically black institutions across the Atlantic coastline: Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Howard University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina Central University and South Carolina State University. The MEAC sponsors 14 Division I (FCS) sports: women’s bowling, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track & field, softball and volleyball. The MEAC receives automatic NCAA qualification bids in seven sports – men’s and women’s basketball, women’s bowling, men’s and women’s tennis, softball and volleyball. The MEAC’s football champion is pitted against the champion of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in the Cricket Celebration Bowl, which debuted in December 2015. MEAC student-athletes excel on and off the field and several have been recognized on ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America and All-District teams. The conference sponsors All-Academic teams in each of its sports and awards two post-graduate scholarships of $5,000 each annually to one male and one female student-athlete who have excelled academically and athletically and are in their final season of intercollegiate athletics eligibility and competition under MEAC and NCAA regulations.
