About us

Michigan Medicine, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is part of one of the world’s leading universities. Michigan Medicine is a premier, highly ranked academic medical center and award-winning health care system with state-of-the-art facilities. Our vision is to create the future of health care through scientific discovery, innovations in education, and the most effective and compassionate care. We want to be the leader in health care, health care reform, and biomedical innovation. Michigan Medicine includes the U-M Hospitals and Health Centers; the U-M Medical School and its Faculty Group Practice; one of the nation's largest biomedical research communities; and education programs that train thousands of future health professionals and scientists each year. We were formerly known as the University of Michigan Medical Center; today that term applies generally to the collection of buildings on our main medical campus in Ann Arbor. We have a close partnership with the U-M School of Nursing and other health sciences schools at U-M. Through the Michigan Health Corporation, we are able to form partnerships outside of our University.

For more than a decade, people with bipolar disorder have volunteered to help our researchers learn more about this complex #mentalhealth condition. That dedication, fueled by the generosity of donors to the Heinz Prechter Bipolar Research Program, just yielded some important findings about how alcohol and bipolar interact: https://michmed.org/Andxk Want to learn more about the Prechter Program and the Detroit automotive pioneer whose tragic death led to its founding? • Bipolar disorder and alcohol: It's not as simple as 'self medication" - U-M study shows even temporary increases in drinking can lead to long-term changes in symptoms, but not vice versa

Trauma. Transplants. Difficult births. Sickle cell crises. Cancer. These urgent medical needs don't take a summer vacation - but the supply of blood that we need to treat all of them often dips in the summer. If you're able, schedule a time to donate blood near you soon. If you'll be on or near the U-M campus in the next week, we have lots of spots at drives happening here! Find a place and time to give near you: https://lnkd.in/djVuV_X If you're not sure if you can donate, or you've never done it before, there's lots of great information on this site too. Donation eligibility requirements have changed in recent years, so if you were turned away before, please try again! Thank you.

Because of worldwide computer outages, at University of Michigan Health we have experienced technical issues in some areas, and there may be delays in trying to connect with our services. However, our operations are continuing, and we are not canceling procedures or appointments at this time. All of our resources are currently dedicated to restoring full functionality as quickly as possible. Patients can still use the MyUofMHealth patient portal for non-urgent messaging with care teams, as well as some appointment scheduling and rescheduling. *UPDATE* 1:35PM: Patients who use our specialty pharmacy for prescriptions that are delivered to their home may experience delays, as we use a third-party delivery service (UPS) which may be affected by the nationwide technology disrputions.  For questions about your prescription's delivery status, please contact our specialty pharmacy: https://lnkd.in/gMfgkpVg

New research provides some much-needed good news for people waiting for mental health care anywhere in the U.S., during our current national shortage of providers and surge of need for care. Our researchers find that depression and anxiety scores dropped when patients waiting for their first appointment used a mental health support app and an activity tracker during the wait.
