"What they're doing is creating a space for students to feel as though they can see themselves in technology." Miami Tech Works Director Terri-Ann Brown made an urgent call to employers to create pathways for new tech talent at the Employer Reception for Break Through Tech Miami at Florida International University. Thanks to Break Through Tech's innovative "Sprinternship" program, FIU students like Yana Judah and Randy Encarnacion received short-term, hands-on training with American Express. Blackstone, City of Coral Gables, eMed, LexisNexis and TelevisaUnivision, among many others, also participate in this groundbreaking program that strengthens the tech talent pipeline. Speaking on a panel at the event, employer JoAnne Kelley from Miami-Dade County IT encouraged employers to take part in Sprinternships to learn about students' working styles, adding, "What tells me how they work is when they come in and they make sure that no one on their team is left behind." If you're an employer of any size and want to improve the lives of the next generation of tech talent, Nimmi and Barbara are ready to talk to you! Dear Coalition Members, After thoughtful discussions with our team and partners, we’ve decided to reschedule this week’s Miami Tech Talent Coalition Meeting. The location and program will stay the same, but the new date will be Thursday, October 24th at The HUB at Office Logic. If you RSVP’d via Luma, you will receive an updated calendar invitation. If you did not RSVP, you can do so via this link: https://lu.ma/0st9ax7t This change is in response to the evolving situation with Hurricane Milton. While Miami may be spared the worst of it, we recognize that many of our friends and family across the state will be facing tough challenges, and we want to remain respectful and mindful of the circumstances. We look forward to seeing you all later this month. In the meantime, let’s keep our neighbors in our thoughts, especially those who are in the storm’s path. We truly appreciate your understanding and continued support. Stay safe, and we can’t wait to see you on October 24th! Reginald Andre Selenis B.
