Miami Children's Museum reposted this
Recent travels took me to New Mexico for events at Explora: The Science Center and Children’s Museum of Albuquerque. It was a pleasure to spend time with Explora’s Co-executive director’s--Joe Hastings and Kristin Leigh to discuss planning for InterActivity 2025, which will be in Albuquerque. I also attended a portion of the Reggio Emilia Conference and moderated a panel on the importance of and the expansion of preschools in children’s museums. Kudos to Deborah Spiegelman and Natalie Williams from the Miami Children's Museum for organizing the panel and the Museum Playful Learning Collective’s (MPLC) inaugural meeting. A few weeks later, I had a pleasant and productive visit to Los Angeles. On this trip, I had a great conversation with Joe Adams, CEO at Discovery Cube, Southern California and others on his team. The Cube has many exciting school programs, field trips, clubs, camps, and exhibits enhanced by gamification. But, the fully reimagined Dino Quest exhibit featuring an interactive dinosaur fossil excavation site, tons of interactive missions and jaw-dropping life-sized dinosaurs is one of the biggest draws. I was also pleased to make a first visit to the relatively new Cayton Children's Museum in Santa Monica. What a small but mighty children’s museum. Interim CEO Barry Van Deman and his team, including Annie Sinzinger, VP, Marketing and Hannah who is the best tour guide. Judging from the squeals of excitement and joy coming from the children who packed this young museum on a Friday, they are doing many things right. Other highlights included visits to the DreamWorks Animation’s Glendale Campus and to the expansive Paramount Pictures Lot for meetings about potential collaboration. Thanks to our friends in the Nickelodeon Public Affairs team in New York, I was invited to the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards show. The event was packed with adoring and excited kids, and it was an evening of recognition, fun and slime. I am grateful to work with exceptional partners at Nickelodeon to include Jean Margaret Smith, Molly Kaye, Andrew Machles, David Bruson and Martha Riberio. It was also great to hang with Tia Johnson Brown of Ashoka Martha and David at the Kids Choice event. Lastly, please get your session proposals in by July 31st for InterActivity 2025. Also, ACM and Nickelodeon invite everyone to register now to participate in the “Our World: Worldwide Day of Play” scheduled for September 28, 2024. #children #museums #learning #play #hollywood
