A Project Manager at heart, Robert Garra is always looking to the future: making seriously detailed to-do lists and counting down the days until he can take his four-year-old daughter on site with him—mini hard hat and all. On today’s #ImpactBlog, we catch up with the Senior Project Manager, diving into those to-dos, checking in on his many projects, and chatting about the importance of making it home for bedtime.

Yesterday, MGAC’s Los Angeles office teamed up with the Assistance League of Los Angeles to assemble 600 school supply kits to ensure all kids start the school year ready for success. The mission of the Assistance League of Los Angeles is to improve the lives of impoverished children and young adults in Los Angeles through philanthropy, dedicated service, and compassionate programs. Our team of volunteers enjoyed spending the morning with the staff at the Assistance League of Los Angeles and making a positive impact on kids in our community. #philanthropy #givingback

MGAC is delighted that Cambrian Wharf received planning permission last week from Birmingham City Council. The project is a Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) development comprised of 1,200 beds set over two blocks, the larger of which is a 35-storey tower with a 15-storey courtyard block. Set alongside the canal, this project contributes to the regeneration of this area of Birmingham. The design provides modern facilities for students, is adjacent to the University's main campus, and provides amenities such as a gym, dance studios, study spaces, social rooms, and external amenity spaces. MGAC is proud to provide project and cost management services on this project, which will allow the University to grow. MGAC provided cost management services for Haberdashers' Boy's Pre-Preparatory School, which was nominated for Project of the Year (under £20M) at last night's #ConstructionNewsAwards! MGAC engaged with VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd on this collaboration to bring to life a new hall and teaching facilities that are cross-functional and house a wide range of activities. The school remained open throughout, even during restorations to the existing library.

With only 13% of women working in the UK construction industry, establishing female representation is more important than ever. Last month, our Women's Initiative Network (WIN) held an interactive session with Ceri Moyers, founder of Clarity Consulting, who facilitated an open discussion on the challenges of gender balance in the workplace and how women in leadership positions are perceived by both women and men. Speaking with confidence is key for any leader, as voice and language coach Jude Bolton of Speaking Works advised in our second session of the day. We were taught how to speak with impact and manage nerves in front of an audience.
