In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, we’re sharply reminded of the devastation extreme weather can bring, and are faced with the unnerving reality that storms like this are becoming more frequent because of climate change. As we confront these challenges, it’s more important than ever to prioritize resilience, ensuring communities are prepared to withstand future storms. About us
After more than a decade of leading the charge in how the New York metropolitan region views and uses its harbor, and with more than 1,000 Alliance Partners committed to bringing real change to our region’s 700 miles of coastline, in 2019 the Waterfront Alliance stepped into a new and critical leadership role to define New York Harbor’s response to sea level rise and coastal storms. Our crucial, long-term focus on increasing waterfront accessibility for all, along with our efforts to advocate for a working waterfront that is a vital source of business activity and well-paying jobs and educating the next generation of waterfront stewards, continue as essential pillars of our work to create a well-adapted and resilient New York Harbor. Together, we build, transform, revitalize, and protect accessible waterfronts for all communities.

Today marks the start of the #EstuaryExplorers 2024-2025 education season! At PS/IS 104 this morning, we engaged four classes and around 80 students with lessons on water quality. Tomorrow, we head to the New York Harbor School to introduce one of our brand new lesson plans! Throughout fall and spring semesters, we’ll connect hundreds of students to their local waterfronts. Check out the Estuary Explorers 2023-2024 Annual Report here to find stats on the number of students we engaged last year, details about the lessons, and more. https://lnkd.in/dqfKMVmq
