We are thrilled to announce that Metropolitan Opera Chief Diversity Officer Marcia Sells will be honored with a Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Vanguard Award during our 59th commemoration on February 21st. In 2021, Sells was tasked to move the Met Opera’s diversity, equity, and inclusion work across all areas of the organization and increase the Met’s engagement with government and community partners. She has held positions in the private and public sector including Dance Theatre of Harlem, Reuters America, the National Basketball Association, Dean of Students at Columbia University School of Law, Harvard Law, and Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.
