In honor of Huntington National Bank's Colleague Appreciation Week, Huntington colleagues were given the opportunity to vote for a community organization in their region that they would like to support financially, and collectively voted support Metroparks. Huntington’s gift of $5,000 will support outreach programs to help further engage our community in all nature has to offer. We are humbled and grateful for this wonderful gift to the Metroparks mission. Huntington, we are grateful for all you do to strengthen the communities you serve. Together we are making lives better. #ParksAreCommonGround #ThisIsToledo #Partnerships #Donations

Cranes Returning to Area Thanks to Restored Habitat Sandhill cranes are now nesting at Secor Metropark, thanks to a recent park expansion and natural resources restoration. Nearby Irwin Prairie State Nature Preserve is an example of the type of habitat the birds need to thrive. Together, the park and preserve, along with other public and private properties in the Oak Openings Corridor, are working together to improve habitat for cranes and other wildlife. Over the weekend, Metroparks conservation science staff deployed the last of five radio transmitters on wood thrush at Pearson. Birds wearing the transmitters will be detected by the Motus wildlife tracking tower at Pearson North, and any other of the hundreds of Motus towers the birds may pass on their fall migration to Central America. There are 600 wood thrushes across their breeding range in eastern North America that are receiving Motus transmitters this summer as one of the biggest bird migration studies in the world kicks off. Metroparks is collaborating partners with the Ohio Division of Wildlife, The Ohio State University, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to make this research possible.

Happy 20th Birthday, Blue Creek Native Nursery 🌿🎉 We're grateful to our dedicated volunteers and staff for helping us grow. We started humbly with less than an acre of small plant beds. Today, we have 35 acres of native seed production fields, which have helped seed thousands of park restoration acres to date. Each seed planted and plant nurtured is a testament to conservation and environmental stewardship. Your support has been vital to our mission to restore and protect our area, from the globally rare Oak Openings to the Lake Erie Coastal Zone. Here's to 20 years of conservation and many more to come! #ParksAreCommonGround #ThisIsToledo #NativePlants #NativeNursery #HappyBirthday #Celebration
