The U.S. wildfire season has burned more than 4.4 million acres, up a staggering 278% from last year, the National Interagency Fire Center reported Thursday. This is concerning for air quality–the air we breathe is more polluted than ever, leading to serious health issues. Seattle recently faced air quality challenges due to wildfire smoke from both local and distant fires. The Puget Sound region experienced moderate to poor air quality, prompting residents, especially sensitive groups, to limit outdoor activities. This situation was caused by weakened offshore winds carrying smoke into western Washington. Seattle's air quality has since improved to a moderate level (https://lnkd.in/gipAfKZ6) due to favorable wind patterns. However, many areas in Washington and Oregon continue to suffer from poor air quality due to ongoing wildfires. These events accentuate the broader implications of climate change. The increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires are direct consequences of a warming planet. To mitigate such impact, we need both immediate and long-term measures, such as improving indoor air quality by using air cleaners that can filter out wildfire smoke and do so sustainably. #metalmarkinnovations #wildfireseason #airpollution #indoorairquality #wildfiresmoke #healthissues #wildfirepreparedness #aircleaner #climatechange #filtration #cleanairqualitysolution

Wildfire smoke exacerbates indoor air pollution for children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). A recent study evaluated the impact of indoor air pollution during the 2023 Canadian wildfire season. Even indoors, fine particles (PM2.5) from wildfire smoke can lead to serious health challenges, especially for vulnerable populations. In response to worsening wildfire trends, organizations can seek out solutions to protect children, the elderly, and people with pre-existing conditions. Tatama by Metalmark, made with an EPA-awarded technology, filters out wildfire smoke particles and pathogens*. Designed especially for commercial facilities, including schools, hospitals, offices, and universities, it provides cleaner indoor air during wildfire events. A new analysis reveals that over 115 million people and 48 million buildings in the U.S. are at high risk from wildfires, a greater threat than previously understood. Climate change has intensified conditions, increasing the frequency and severity of wildfires across the country. Climate change has intensified heat, droughts, and wildfire conditions over recent years, dramatically increasing the scope and severity of these natural disasters. The impact reaches beyond the U.S. West, with smoke from fires across Canada blanketing the contiguous U.S. in 2023. The economic toll is also severe, with wildfires costing the U.S. between $394 billion and $893 billion annually. This financial burden encompasses damage to real estate, property, watersheds, timber, and insurance liabilities. In response to these escalating risks, innovative approaches to wildfire modeling and data analysis are being developed and deployed. Tools like wildfirerisk.org provide vital insights, helping communities and policymakers allocate resources effectively for mitigation and response efforts. While direct wildfire mitigation is clearly important, these research and economic models ignore a major consideration: smoke-related short- and long-term healthcare costs incurred near and far from the fire sources. Take action with Metalmark Innovations: Protect your indoor air quality with our patented technology, tested and awarded by the #USEPA's Cleaner Indoor Air During the Wildfires Challenge. As wildfires worsen, ensure cleaner indoor environments for your buildings. Wildfires are wreaking havoc across the country. For example, according to recent news published by The Bellingham Herald, 🌲 wildfires in #Washington state have led Bellingham and Whatcom County to receive an “F” grade for 24-hour particle pollution in the latest air quality report. Forecasts suggest that this could be another smoke-filled season in the Northwest due to early, longer wildfires across the region. These conditions have already caused Bellingham to drop off the list of cleanest U.S. cities. The most recent forecast from the National Interagency Fire Center indicates a high likelihood of significant wildfire activity in multiple regions. Presently, numerous substantial wildfires are underway across North America, particularly in Canada's Alberta and British Columbia, where they have devastated extensive areas. Meanwhile, in the United States, early-season fires have ignited in Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico, with the potential for further outbreaks given weather conditions conducive to fire propagation. 🚨 We experienced significant smoke events last summer, and this year may be no different, with models showing that this year's wildfires could be even more intense. 🔍 Using air cleaners that can filter out smoke PM can be essential in #IAQ during these smoke days. At Metalmark, we're dedicated to providing effective, low-maintenance, and energy-saving air-cleaning solutions, and our Tatama air cleaner is engineered to combat the challenges posed by wildfire smoke, ensuring cleaner indoor environments. #metalmarkinnovations #wildfiresmoke #particulatematter #smokepollution #indoorairquality #airfilters #tatama #cleanairsolutions #healthyenvironment
