Sustainable, Historic, Admirable Washington State Winery.

About us

The Mercer family has cared for the land of the Horse Heaven Hills for five generations, dating back to 1886. Since planting the first wine grapes in the Horse Heaven Hills back in 1972, the Mercer family has prided itself on growing a solid base of the Cabernet Sauvignon varietal. Over the years, we have learned that our rich soil and desert climate are beautifully suited for producing elegant tannin structures and enticing flavor profiles. The ability to grow exceptional wine grapes eventually led to the first vintage from Mercer Estates Winery located in Prosser WA in 2005. Our state-of-the-art winery allows our winemaking team the luxury of temperature control and immaculate conditions for fermentation. The large Prosser facility provides space and efficiencies for true craftsman-style winemaking. And our barrel rooms allow for long and varied barrel aging programs. It is with full artistic control that our winemaker blends and creates the new world wines that we at Mercer are so proud to share.

We are thrilled to announce we are ready to fill a position for the Hospitality Manager at our new tasting room in downtown Walla Walla. This candidate will play an integral role in the opening of this new location. If you are interested, we encourage you to apply! The tasting room is set to open June 1st and will be located in a prime spot right dowtown. We have spent the last several months working on remodeling the building, originally built in 1889, to showcase its original architecture. Once completed, it’s going to be spectacular. Proud farmers, winemakers and creatives are what make up our tight-knit, family-run business. We hope to find a candidate who shares our same values of respect, integrity, collaboration, loyalty, family and hard work. We know you’re out there!

Thank you Washington Tasting Room Magazine for the features in your Winter 2023/24 release. We love the quote by author Mark Storer, “wine may even be agriculture’s highest expression of what the combination of land and hands can do together to create something unique.” Are people losing touch with their connection to the land and where their food comes from? Certainly. However, wine is an opportunity to rengage the community with the land that provides them sustenance. Is there any grander form of art than nature? What about a beautiful bottle of wine that showcases the magic of mankind working harmoniously with nature? Special. We’re honored to carry on the legacy of winemaking in Washington state. How do you value wineries that are deeply connected with their land? #wine #wineindustry #terroir #wawine #washingtonstate #washingtonwine #mercerwine

Thank you John Vitale with Washington Tasting Room Magazine for the insightful review and excellent scores on eight of our recent releases. From whites to reds everything is 91 points or greater! "Tasting through these eight brand new releases strikes a familiar chord from those early tasting memories of knowing that Mercer wines have always had “it.” Character-plus, I might call it. Perhaps the “it” factor comes from a multitude of factors. Such as the various sandy soil types underlying Mercer’s many individual vineyards that stretch in and around the rugged farmland plateaus of the Heavens dimpled with canyons, which lend differing climactic influences on the grape varietals. Or perhaps it’s the barrage of steady winds blowing from the mighty Columbia River that give the vines and grapes their stoic traits. The end results are solid wines, driven by world-class fruit and finished with respect by the winemaking team, led by head winemaker Ashley Stephens." https://lnkd.in/gYixW-Xa
