About us

Healing is our purpose. Help is our promise. Health is our passion. Mental Health Partners (MHP), a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, was founded in 1962 as the Mental Health Center of Boulder County and opened at the county general hospital on North Broadway in Boulder. The clinic, which was formed thanks to the collective efforts of a group of dedicated citizens, provided services for adult and child clients, as well as an after-care program for clients discharged from mental hospitals. Over the past 60 years, MHP has continued to keep pace with growth and demand. It is considered a leader and innovator in mental health, and it is the only organization providing comprehensive mental health services to residents of Boulder and Broomfield counties regardless of their ability to pay. Today, the organization serves over 21,000 individuals each year and responds to nearly 13,000 calls to emergency psychiatric services annually. MHP employs over 400 dedicated administrative and mental health professionals—including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and peer support specialists. Our team of licensed therapists and support team members are experts in their fields, bringing a wide array of knowledge and diversity to the individuals they serve. MHP runs 20 distinct programs from 9 service locations across Boulder and Broomfield counties, and engages more than 100 community partners including schools, healthcare clinics, nonprofits, local agencies, and businesses. In 2022, MHP announced a partnership with Clinica to open a facility in Nederland. What is "whole-person care"? It is healthcare that considers the many different factors that impact one’s health and wellness. For example, your physical, mental, and dental health all play a vital role in your overall quality of life. As we move closer to merging with Clinica Family Health (our longtime community health partner), we are thrilled to meet our clients where they are by offering them better access to physical and dental health services. Whole-person care matters because it recognizes that our health is multi-dimensional, just like our community. #WholePersonCare #Health #Wellness

Have you HERD the news?! MHP and Clinica Family Health intend to merge to become Clinica Family Health and Wellness. As one combined organization we will provide affordable and holistic physical, mental, and dental health services from locations across Boulder, Broomfield, Gilpin, and Adams counties. We anticipate the merger to be completed in September 2024. How exciting is that?! We'll provide quality, comprehensive, and community-based healthcare for thousands of local individuals and families - including those with Medicaid, Medicare, and uninsured. Why are we doing this? The healthcare environment is rapidly changing and access to care in a fragmented system is a continued challenge. This merger will help us remove some of these barriers and bring together more resources to meet the needs of our community. For the past 2 years, MHP and Clinica have been thoughtfully discussing how we could better work together to address these realities. It became abundantly clear that merging—leveraging over 100 years of combined experience and expertise in physical and behavioral health—was the strongest way to effect meaningful change. We look forward to continuing to serve our community in new and exciting ways! Learn more about the merger: https://lnkd.in/gtAqBFKs

Those in minoritized communities experience a healthcare gap. In large part, this gap is caused by biases that stem from systemic racism. Biases and racism create a barrier to care, and we can see these disproportionate effects generationally. Barriers to care are obstacles that make it challenging for individuals to receive help. Some barriers to care include: - Cultural and language differences between providers and clients - Insurance issues (such as lack of insurance or insufficient coverage) - Stigma and shame within communities What can we do about this? As individuals, we can seek information and stay up to date on findings and stats. It's important that we also research what political candidates advocate for and then vote accordingly, if able. A lack of insurance and resources impacts our community. We need to use our voice. You matter and we're so happy that you're here! #MentalHealth #HealthCare

"Intersectionality" is a term used to describe the lens through which we come to understand our experiences in the world, especially regarding our experiences with identity-based oppressions. From gender to race to ethnicity to age to ability and beyond, we all experience life differently. Kimberlé Crenshaw, American civil rights advocate, lawyer, and law professor at UCLA School of Law and Columbia Law School, created this term in 1989 when reviewing a legal case. Those who hold multiple identities or belong to multiple groups face unique challenges. From biases they encounter to finding culturally and linguistically competent clinicians, therapy is simply less accessible. This Minority Mental Health Month, learn more about local resources in your community that supports the identities of many. https://lnkd.in/g-vw9rZ3
