📣 Highlighting Inclusive Healthcare Practices At Melmark, we are committed to making healthcare accessible and accommodating for everyone. Mamie Richiutti, our Senior Director of Healthcare Services, recently shared invaluable insights in Autism Spectrum News. She emphasizes the importance of modifying policies and procedures to better support individuals with autism and other special needs. As Mamie says: “Ways providers can modify policies and procedures are by providing earlier appointments when the office is less crowded, allowing staff to complete paperwork for those who have difficulties, and allowing companions and service animals to accompany individuals to their appointments.” These simple yet effective strategies can make a world of difference in ensuring equitable access to healthcare. 📰 Read her full article here: https://lnkd.in/gBNi8H-d

This recently published book, Behavior Safety and Clinical Practice in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, edited by members of Melmark’s leadership team and senior staff, addresses behavior safety and clinical practice with persons who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). It focuses on safety concerns among children, youth, and adults with IDD who are susceptible to accidents and personal injury, lack self-preservation skills to prevent and avoid risk exposure, demonstrate behavior that is harmful (e.g., abuse, aggression, and property destruction), and receive restrictive and potentially unsafe interventions. The book examines characteristics of service settings, including strategies that promote environmental safety, training of care providers to implement safety protocols, and mitigation of risk factors associated with disease transmission. In addition, it describes evidence-based practices at the person-specific, intervention, and organizational levels, featuring service recommendations and directions for future research.
